About
The North Carolina-based Bucket Brothers—Logan and Casey Valleroy—have captivated audiences since 2012 with their sophisticated arrangements, seamless improvisation, and beyond-their-years mastery of jazz. Fans enthuse over their musicianship, composure, and stage presence.
The hard-working Bucket Brothers average 20-30 performances a year at festivals, weddings, and a range of other venues. In 2017, the Bucket Brothers were featured on the Woodsongs Old-Time Radio Hour, sharing the stage with Livingston Taylor and Rebecca Loebe. Woodsongs airs on over 500 radio stations worldwide and on PBS stations in millions of homes across America. The brothers capped 2016 with an appearance at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, joining jazz luminaries Chuck and Robert Redd and other leading jazz artists at the annual All-Star Christmas Day Jazz Jam. The Bucket Brothers have appeared twice at the LEAF Festival in Black Mountain, NC, as well as playing at the OcraFolk Festival, Rooster Walk Festival, and Pocahontas County Opera House in Marlinton, WV.
Logan (currently 24 years old) was one of 17 young acoustic musicians from around the world who participated in the Savannah Music Festival's highly selective Acoustic Music Seminar in April, 2019, directed by Mike Marshall. In past summers, Logan has received scholarships to attend music intensives at Berklee College of Music, the Creative Strings Workshop, the Swannanoa Gathering, and many others. Violin mentors include Gabriel Pelli, Jason Anick, and Christian Howes, who describes Logan as a "standout" in terms of versatility and improvisation. In addition to playing the violin, Logan is an accomplished swing and jazz guitarist and enjoys playing the mandolin and electric bass.
Casey (age 20) currently studies with critically acclaimed UNC-Chapel Hill Jazz Professor Stephen Anderson, while also participating in college-level jazz combos at UNC. Both Professor Anderson and Casey’s previous jazz piano mentor, Robert Griffin, have commented on Casey's exceptional talent, creative approach, and joy for the musical experience. Casey has also studied with Robert Redd, pianist for the Duke Ellington Orchestra. In addition to piano, Casey studies jazz drumming with Russell Lacy.
Logan has been featured in Strings magazine as a rising star on violin. In 2013, North Carolina’s acclaimed Our State magazine profiled the two brothers when they were just 13 and 10. They have appeared (2014 and 2016) on WUNC public radio’s “The State of Things.” In mid-2016, the brothers released their crowdfunded debut album (Our State), featuring originals and jazz standards. In mid-2019, the brothers released their latest recording, featuring all original music.
