The Ambassadors

We specialize in the Great American Songbook—songs from the heart of the 20th century which have stood the test of time. Most of our repertoire comes from the 30's through the 60's, with a few older and newer. You can expect big band tunes from Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Count Basie, and others, along with vocals made famous by Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra.

The Ambassadors Big Band has been a popular fixture in Swing-era dance music in central North Carolina for a decade, entertaining all ages with the classic music of Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, Count Basie and pother great bands of their era. The Ambassadors are a community outreach of United Church of Chapel Hill and are a popular choice for retirement communities, wedding receptions, university events, jazz concerts and dances.

We need a performance area (preferably a raised stage) at least 25' x 25'. Alternatively, we can work in a wider configuration, needing at least 16' in depth and about 50' wide. We need at least 3 mics (wireless preferred), with speakers for the audience as well as monitors for the performers. In cases where this is not available, we can sometimes provide our own audio equipment, and this can be discussed if needed. We also need about 15 chairs, 4-6 nearby power outlets, along with adequate stage lighting. If a good quality piano is available for our use, we would like that; alternatively we will bring our electronic piano.
