About
The Texas Institute for Property Rights is dedicated to providing research and consulting for businesses, organizations, and legislators interested in defending one of our most precious rights--the freedom to create, use, keep, trade and dispose of values. Without property rights, we cannot create and enjoy the values that make individual flourishing possible.
The institute's research includes policy briefs, white papers, and a blog. Our research focuses on the principles that underlie property rights, as well as the principles that give rise to attacks on property rights. By focusing on principles, we provide our clients with both moral and practical arguments to defend property rights.
The Institute was founded by Brian Phillips. Brian has been defending property rights for nearly thirty years. He played a key role in defeating zoning in Houston, Texas, and in Hobbs, New Mexico.
His writing has appeared in publications such as Reason, The Freeman, The Objective Standard, and the Houston Chronicle. He is the author of two books, Individual Rights and Government Wrongs, and The Innovator Versus the Collective.
