What to expect
I'm known for writing personalized Singing Telegrams using information provided by the sender. We try to include as much information as possible and when I can, I use the recipient's favorite song or group for the melody line.
My costumed characters are all original and most were hand made by my late mother.
I also include This Day in History for most of my deliveries which includes interesting facts about the recipient's day they were born, married or started work. It's a really fun way to get the crowd involved in the telegram.
One thing is for sure. I take extra care in every one of my telegrams and deliveries and when you deal with me, it's me that is writing the song and delivering it. I don't have anyone else doing the writing or singing. That way, I can guarantee it's going to be great!
About
Ron started entertaining early in his life. In 1975, at the tender age of 11 Ron was selected to be in the Civic Light Opera's production of "Fiddler on The Roof" at Heinz Hall and signed his first professional contract. At the same time he also started singing with the Greater Pittsburgh Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society and was appointed their musical director when he was a senior in high school. During his high school years he was always entertaining everyone and was featured numerous times on talent shows and concerts. He was chosen as the recipient of the National School Choral Award and represented his high school in district and regional choral festivals for fours years in a row.
Fresh out of high school, Ron worked for Balloons Over Pittsburgh and realized he had an incredible ability to write songs about people, so he was soon doing singing telegrams for the company. Since that time, he has worked for several companies doing singing telegrams. Being somewhat embarrassed and disappointed in what he was being asked to do at times, Ron decided to create his own company where he could control the quality of what was being presented, and be sure it was always in good taste.
At the age of 18 Ron became the director of the Greater Pittsburgh Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society. Ron was selected as Barbershopper of the Year for the Greater Pittsburgh Chapter and inducted into the chapter Hall of Fame five years later. In the fall of 1990, he became the musical director of the Butler, PA Chapter.
During Ron's tenure there, the Notables went from being a struggling chapter a model chapter -- winning four Johnny Appleseed District Small Chorus Championships. He was again chosen Barbershopper of the Year for the Butler chapter in 1992. Ron's been involved with a
quite a few quartets too, including the Pittsburgh Music Revue, the Harmony Partners, Hourglass, the award winning Wired for Sound quartet, and InCahootz, an a cappella mixed quartet. Ron's quartet Wired for Sound was featured in the professional production of The Music Man at the Byham Theater in Pittsburgh.
Ron & his wife Lynda were married in 1996. Shortly after the birth of their son David, Ron took a hiatus from directing and enjoyed being a
stay home dad.
Ron knew this might be a part of the plan so in 1997 he started Brooks Entertainment, a business he knew and loved and could run from home.
In 2015 a newer Barbershop Chorus in the Cranberry Township area reached out to Ron and asked if he was interested in becoming their director. Since then the chorus has grown from 20 singers to over 50 and in 2017 he was awarded Director of the Year for the Johnny Appleseed District (Covering Ohio, Western Pennsylvania and West Virginia).
Ron, his wife Lynda and their twenty-year-old son, David who will be a Junior at Penn State in the fall of 2019, live in Saxonburg, PA just north of Pittsburgh.
