Shirlee Smith gave three dynamic, informative, humorous, interesting and engaging presentations.
Her first presentation was focused on
parents and parenting. The parents came away feeling enlightened and emboldened and commented that Shirlee was "down to earth, funny, and a fantastic presenter"
From the success of the presentation to the parents Shirlee was invited to present to Marlton's staff. Many similar responses were elicited with the added commentary that she was inspiring and extremely motivational and was she available to present to the students on Career Day.
Shirlee came on Career Day and through an interpreted interview was equally as dynamic and engaging with the high school students as she had been with their parents and their staff educators!
Shirlee Smith is a member of the Uptight Senior Citizens Brigade, a troupe of stand-up comedians all over 50 years young. Most of Shirlee's comedy is inspired by her own experiences as a mother and foster mother.
Response from Talk About Parenting with Shirlee Smith :
What a pleasure it is to motivate people through comedy! My stand-up routine works to put laughs into life's journey via a special perspective. Thanks Ms Williamson for the great outreach you do through your "Brigade". And thanks for honoring my work by allowing me to be a member of the "Brigade".
In 2016 Shirlee Smith spoke at a luncheon forum held by the CLaremont Democratic Club. I don't remember the lunch at all, but the speaker was splendid. We were all influenced by what she had to say. It changed the way we saw the world.
Response from Talk About Parenting with Shirlee Smith :
Many thanks to Professor Light for having invited me to meet and speak with his group who had an
interest in a side of the world they weren't familiar with. I believe we all benefitted from the presentation as the questions were invigorating and brought me to enhance my presentation incorporating the questions for all up-coming engagements asking for the same topic. Oh, the lunch? I can't eat prior to performing so I don't know what the food was BUT I'm glad to read I was "splendid". HEY BOOKERS - I'm ready for YOUR event!
Price Range: $400 and up
Gig Length: 30 - 240 minutes
What to Expect
SPEAKER - a dynamic presentation packed with commonsense practical information delivered within the realm of current/trending issues woven into a background of value oriented practical wisdom gleamed from life experiences and sociological theory.
Expect your attendees to be challenged, entertained and educated.
WORKSHOPS - your parents will relax in the comfort of discussing the intricacies they face in raising children when discovering they are the same ones prevalent in other families. Your parents will find that "Talking About Parenting with Shirlee Smith" brings them calm and practical new avenues to explore in working through their current parenting patterns.
Expect your attendees to want MORE!
COMEDY - audiences find laughter in the issues that, prior to being on hand for my performance, they thought were too serious or troublesome to address. Laugh About Parenting with Shirlee Smith works for those who don't have children BECAUSE audience members get flashbacks to their own days of growing up and working hard to out-wit their parents.
Expect your audience to see humor in life's everyday occurrences while they also learn some comedic approaches to handling challenges!
I grew up in Los Angeles, California. Went to public schools and married soon after HS graduation. Had 6 children and 2 husbands - both marriages ended in divorce and I became a single parent. Was recruited in 1968 for a program at UCLA. I graduated as an honor student -Departmental Scholar in sociology and the biggest lesson learned was the influence parents have on their children. Mine became scholarly as they saw me pouring over my books along with them while they were doing their own homework. From that experience, I became committed to helping parents do a better job. I founded a non-profit organization and one of the programs I created was "Mothers Behind Bars - the parent puzzle." I developed workshops and recruited presenters to cover a series of topics designed specifically for inmate mothers who were not with their children. As a newspaper columnist (40 years) and cable program producer (20 years) I have amassed a wide range of contacts and resources that are the tools needed by adults to assist children in becoming their best. My commitment is to share these contacts and resources.
