Overview

Svindelic Cyr Wheel Troupe is a performance group specializing in the art of the roue cyr.

The apparatus is but a mere circle, yet it is the simplicity of the shape that adds to its allure. "What are they gonna do with that great big hoop?" We're gonna make you gasp and smile and wonder how it's all even possible. It's as if Vitruvian Man has come to life, and is simultaneously evincing Leonardo's artistry, science and imagination.

We perform individually and as a group, and are available to put on a mesmerizing show for your special event.

What to expect

Gasps and cheers are drawn from the audience as they witness acrobatic acts that seem to defy the laws of physics performed with grace and style. The Cyr Wheel is most often only seen on the stages of Cirque du Soleil and the like, but Svindelic takes the art form beyond just a physical spectacle and adds stories, characters, and even comedy.

HAROLD MOELLER
Harold's circus arts career began when he applied and was accepted to the Ringling Bros and Barnum & Bailey Clown college. Upon graduation he toured with Blue Unit for two years after which he earned his MFA in Acting from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Harold's performing career spans from Off Broadway, cruislines to various tours. It was while touring on the Britney Spears CIRCUS tour as a clown, juggler, and unicycler, he was introduced to the beautiful circus discipline of the Cyr Wheel.

Performing Cyr Wheel has taken him over seas and he continues to perform as a "multi talent" for special events with the Big Apple Circus TO GO programs and Ringling Bros. Whether its on the cyr wheel, spinning lasso, juggling, clowning, or unicycling, Harold can be seen around NYC in variety arts Shows and with various circus troupes as well as teaching circus arts with circus in residency programs in schools!

MICHAEL BAUER
Michael graduated from NYU Tisch School of the Arts, CAP 21 where he majored in musical theater. Michael has performed in regional theaters across America including Goodspeed Opera House, Weston Playhouse, Shawnee Playhouse, and Lancaster Opera House. In 2010 he co-founded the experimental theater group, Loom Ensemble, which works to create collaborative devised work uniting spoken text, song, and dance to tell their stories. Michael was recently featured in Loom's piece entitled "Erosion: a Fable," performed at LaMama theater in NYC as part of their 50th year Anniversary Performance Series.

As for Cyr Wheel, Michael saw some clips on Youtube one day, decided to buy one, and then trained with fellow cyr wheel friends until he figured it out. In 2012 he and three others formed the circus troop, Svindelic, a varied-skill performance group with emphasis on Cyr Wheel Performance. He has taught Cyr Wheel at Streb in Brooklyn NY, and continues to teach with Svindelic in downtown Manhattan.

RANDY KATO
Randy is a (hula) hooper, custom hoop crafter and fire performer. He earned his degree from UC Berkeley in a completely unrelated field. Randy has performed with the hoop in music videos, at numerous events and festivals, and in The BEX's productions of "HELLO!" and "HELLO!100." He has performed internationally with fire, including with the Burning Man Fire Conclave.

Randy's obsession with the hoop naturally led him to the "big hoop" or Cyr Wheel. The wheel mesmerized him from the moment he first saw a video of it online. After many months of fruitless searching for instruction or information in New York City, he ordered a wheel from Montreal and began the long arduous journey of teaching himself. He has performed at venues including The Queens Theatre, The Lost Circus, Ideal Glass Gallery and The House of Yes. He has taught at Streb and Kazuko Hirabayashi Dance Theater.

Now with Svindelic, Randy hopes to continue spreading his love of this unique art form through performance and instruction.

Influences and inspiration

Svindelic's influences are wide ranging. Certainly the pioneers in the art of the Cyr Wheel, including Daniel Cyr for whom the apparatus is named, are major inspirations. But with backgrounds as varied as ballet, modern dance, acrobatics, circus, clowning, musical theater, fire arts and extreme sports, the members of Svindelic have too many influences to list, but they bring them all to their work with the Cyr Wheel.
