Surrender Friday is a classic rock/pop/modern rock cover band based in the Washington, DC metro area (Bethesda, MD). Formed in 2008 in Montgomery County, Maryland, the band has achieved local popularity and critical accolades.
Current band members include Cathy Broadwell (lead vocals), Mike Smith (guitar), Matt Rowan (guitar), Mike Bilello (bass), and Steve Snyder (drums). The band's original drummer, Dan Wasser, and Mike Bilello met in 2008, and formed the band based on their similar musical tastes. Cathy Broadwell joined the group in 2009. Coming from an extensive background in graphic design, she also designed the band’s logo and website. The other band members also come from professional backgrounds, and were united through their passion of music and performing. Hailing from hometowns of New York City to Philadelphia to St. Louis to Washington, D.C., they have individually performed in previous bands throughout the East Coast and, as Surrender Friday, currently perform at many venues within Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C.
The band has had several previous guitarists, including Glenn Stone and Gabe Gnall. Glenn Stone, who also played keyboards and harmonica, was another founding member of the band. His life was tragically cut short as he was suddenly stricken by an aggressive form of leukemia late in 2010, and passed away a few months later in January, 2011. Mike Smith subsequently joined the band in early 2011. Long time member Gabe Gnall left the band in 2012 to pursue other musical interests, at which time Matt Rowan joined the group. Keyboardist David Gaines also had a brief stint with the band in 2009. Steve Snyder joined late in 2013, following Dan Wasser's departure from the band.
The band is known for their wide and varied selection of music, and has often performed for charity functions and fundraisers.
Surrender Friday has a PA system for small to large venues, and has stage lighting.
