Southbound Revival isn't just a duo; it’s a musical homecoming. Founded by veteran musicians John Monahan ("Johnny Guitar") and Tim Sutton, the group was born from a chance encounter at a local gig—a literal "passing of the torch" (and a fist bump) in a parking lot that turned into a powerhouse partnership.
With over 45 combined years of stage experience, John and Tim have built a sound that captures the pure freedom of a southbound road trip. Whether it’s the bluesy grit of Clapton and Hendrix, the classic storytelling of Tom Petty and Neil Young, or the modern soul of John Mayer, Southbound Revival brings a "revival" of the spirit to every stage they hit.
**The Live Experience: High-Wire Artistry**
We don’t believe in playing it "by the book." While we honor our heroes—from Elvis to the Eagles—we never play a song the same way twice. We thrive on musical improvisation and "reading the room."
The Dynamic: We alternate lead vocals and soloing duties, allowing us to stay loose, off-the-cuff, and completely in tune with the energy of the audience.
The Sound: Beyond two guitars, we layer in mandolin and harmonica to keep the texture fresh and the energy high.
The Trio: For larger venues or high-energy events, we can expand into a trio with a world-class, versatile drummer who shares our "feel-first" philosophy.
