Soul Shades is a Brooklyn-based live duo built for events where the music has to do real work — fill the floor, hold the room, and shift with the energy as the night moves.
Julie Schatz delivers live vocals and multi-instrumentation; DJ DX brings turntablism and original production. Together they blend house, afro house, R&B, and soul into sets shaped around your event, with live looping and original arrangements layered over the mix — not a playlist with a singer on top.
They're a fit for [weddings, corporate events, lounges, rooftop parties, private celebrations — pick the ones that are actually true]. Sets are flexible from cocktail hour through late-night, and they handle [your own gear / sound / etc.] so the night runs smoothly.

We provide our performance equipment, including a DJ controller, microphones, keyboard, and electric violin.
We require access to a professional PA system and soundboard with available XLR or 1/4" inputs to connect our gear.
At minimum, we’ll need:
2–4 XLR or 1/4" inputs on the venue's mixer/soundboard
One monitor speaker (optional but preferred)
One electrical outlet or power strip near the performance area
Lighting: We can perform with existing venue lighting, but if stage lighting is available, it enhances the experience.
Staging: A minimum space of 6x8 feet is ideal to accommodate a DJ table, keyboard stand, and room for performance.
We arrive early to set up and conduct a brief soundcheck to ensure optimal audio quality.
We are flexible and happy to work with your team to adapt to the space and technical setup
