Oh Shay!

Shay Leonia is not only a remarkable talent but also a remarkable person. I received Shays info from a good friend whom I recently hired to perform at my Annual Innovators of Change Screening and Awards Events at the J. Walter Thompson New York offices. From beginning to end, Shay was professional and even flexible when we had to reschedule due this horrid winter. Shay even went the extra step to invite me to one her rehearsals with her fun loving band mates as they prepared for my show. If you're looking artist who is not a diva but will give you a show like some of our great divas of our time then hire her today. Not only will guests have a time they will never forget but they will screaming Oh Shay!

Hired as: R&B Group, R&B Vocalist

What to expect

Audiences can expect a polished, fun performance with a lot of personality -- yes, including my blue curls bopping around the stage and a performer who genuinely enjoys being there. I’m expressive, engaged, and not afraid to ham it up when the moment calls for it, while still keeping the performance intentional, warm, and well-paced. Clients can expect clear, proactive communication from booking through the final song, with thoughtful attention to timing, flow, and any custom requests. I’m known for being adaptable and calm under pressure, whether that means accommodating last-minute changes, honoring meaningful dedications, or adjusting to the energy of the room in real time.

I primarily perform with my band and love opportunities where we can bring a full, dynamic sound to an event. That said, I’m equally comfortable performing as a duo, trio, or soloist when the occasion calls for it, always tailoring the setup to best serve the moment and the audience.

About

For more than a decade, I’ve helped couples and crowds celebrate life’s biggest moments through music. I’ve performed on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert with Janelle Monáe, lent my voice to commercials, and trained at The American Musical and Dramatic Academy. From timeless Motown to pop, rock, and all the 80s-90s favorites, I bring powerhouse vocals and an easy vibe that keeps guests smiling, singing, and dancing all night.

I’m proud to use my voice for celebrations rooted in love, equity, and connection -- not violence, hate, or exclusion.

Additional booking notes

Sound, lighting, and staging needs vary depending on the size and format of the event. For most performances, I require a standard professional sound system appropriate for the venue, with access to power and a basic stage or performance area. I perform with a professional Shure microphone and XLR setup.

For events that do not have in-house sound, my band and I can coordinate full sound support as an add-on, including setup and breakdown, to ensure a seamless experience. All technical details are confirmed in advance so there are no surprises on event day.

Influences and inspiration

I’m an elder millennial raised in a family of musicians, so my musical DNA pulls from a wide spectrum — jazz standards, oldies, and Broadway show tunes alongside the pop, R&B, and rock that shaped my generation. Influences range from George Michael, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, and Mariah Carey to rock staples like Journey, Alice in Chains, and Led Zeppelin.

I frequently perform with jazz-trained musicians, which gives the group a strong musical foundation and the flexibility to move comfortably across genres. The result is a sound that’s versatile, intentional, and adaptable — whether the moment calls for elegance, nostalgia, soul, or high-energy fun.

Setup requirements

Professional sound system appropriate for the venue and audience size (in-house or provided by client)

Microphone input (XLR) and standard power access

Performance area or stage suitable for the ensemble size

Basic stage lighting (venue standard is sufficient)

Full sound support (equipment, setup, and breakdown) available upon request for venues without in-house sound
