With a background rooted in musical theater, Shannon is NOT your typical belly dancer!
Shannon has been studying Belly Dance in numerous forms and styles since 2004, and has been teaching since 2007. Her earliest Belly Dance studies took a heavy focus on Tunisian, Greek, and Egyptian. Shannon's travels brought her to Michigan and under the guidance of Elysia Hafsa of Carnivale Mijnoon she would learn to work with numerous props, fire, and more. She worked with Mijnoon at the Michigan Renaissance Festival. and Mid-Michigan Renfest. Eventually her travels took her to Minnesota, and she has remained 'Minnesota Nice" ever since. She's spent the last 7 years in different adventures, such as working with Smiling Lune as Assistant Director and performer, and dancing in 2 productions in the Minnesota Fringe Festival. Through the years, she has performed in numerous cabaret and stage shows, haflas, events and fundraisers, conventions, and more recently the shows that she produces with Geek Slink at Bryant Lake Bowl. She occasionally works in Musical Theater as a choreographer, and most recently brought dance to productions of Catch Me If You Can and Side Show with the Chameleon Theater Circle. She has also been an emcee for the Tribal Revolution Belly Dance Festival in Chicago since 2016.
In the geeky world, she's a huge wrestling fan and also hosts a bi-weekly wrestling podcast called Married Marks with her husband. She has worked as a comic artist, adores video games, and loves Anime and mainstream comic books. Feel free to talk to her about all things geek...she's happy to discuss! (and duh, Han shot first.)
Additional Booking Notes
Belly dance is family-friendly entertainment, based on a folkloric celebratory style. Shows are typically 20-25 minutes, composed of 3-5 songs that Shannon will select for your event. If you have a specific song or style of music you would like included, please let the dancer know before the night of the show! A sound system that plays either CDs or can hook up an mp3 player is needed.
The dancer will arrive about 15 minutes prior to show-time and will be accompanied by a security escort. She will need a safe and private place to change and store her things. The show will begin at the agreed upon time, and then the fun begins! Feel free to clap, participate respectfully, and have a good time!
If you have chosen a 2-set show, Shannon will change into a different costume before their second 20-25 minute set.
