What to expect

I offer two distinct services: live sound engineering and traditional American folk music performance.

Live Sound Engineering:
Clients can expect professional, attentive audio engineering tailored to their event. I provide front-of-house mixing, monitor mixing, sound system setup, troubleshooting, and technical support for live performances.
My experience includes working with solo musicians, full bands, and multi-act showcases across the Baltimore area. I'm comfortable operating a variety of analog and digital mixing consoles and adapting to different equipment configurations and venue environments.
As a musician myself, I understand the needs of performers onstage and strive to deliver clear, balanced sound while maintaining effective communication throughout the event.

Old-Time Banjo & Folk Music:
As a banjo player and vocalist, I perform traditional American folk music with an emphasis on Appalachian old-time, early country, and historical American songs.
My performances feature traditional clawhammer banjo playing, accompanied by vocals ranging from lively drinking songs and humorous folk tunes to ballads and historical material.
Audiences can expect an authentic, lively performance rooted in the older traditions of American folk music, rather than modern bluegrass.
I offer both vocal performances and instrumental banjo music, making my services suitable for folk festivals, historical events, private gatherings, and other occasions.
Whether behind the mixing console or performing with a banjo, my goal is to provide an enjoyable, professional experience tailored to the event.

About

I'm a Baltimore County-based live sound engineer and audio technician with experience in live music production, sound reinforcement, studio recording, and event audio.
My professional experience includes working with AAPS Productions, Matthew's Dave Band, and independent venues throughout the Baltimore area. I've provided front-of-house mixing, monitor mixing, stage setup, equipment troubleshooting, and live audio support for a variety of performances and events.
I've worked with everything from small acoustic ensembles and full bands to multi-artist showcases, adapting to different venues, equipment configurations, and performance requirements.
In addition to my live sound experience, I have a background in audio recording and music technology through the Community College of Baltimore County, where I've studied recording techniques, signal processing, and audio production.
As both a musician and an audio engineer, I understand the importance of clear communication between performers and technicians. My goal is to provide reliable, professional sound while keeping events running smoothly.

Additional booking notes

I provide professional live sound engineering and audio technician services using equipment supplied by the client, venue, or production company.
A suitable PA system, mixing console, microphones, monitors, cabling, and other necessary audio equipment should be available on-site and appropriate for the event's requirements.
Prior to booking, I request information about the venue, available equipment, number of performers, input requirements, and event schedule to ensure adequate preparation.
For live bands and multi-act events, advance coordination regarding stage plots, input lists, soundchecks, and changeover schedules is strongly recommended.
Setup, soundcheck, and breakdown time should be accounted for when scheduling services. For larger productions and multi-act events, stagehands should be available to assist with equipment movement, stage setup, and changeovers, allowing me to maintain uninterrupted control of the audio system.

Influences and inspiration

My musical influences are rooted primarily in Appalachian old-time music, traditional American folk, early country, and Piedmont blues.
Artists such as Dock Boggs, Ola Belle Reed, and Hobart Smith represent the older banjo traditions that inspire my playing, particularly the raw, rhythmic character of clawhammer and traditional fingerstyle banjo.
I'm also influenced by John Hartford, whose approach to traditional music combined deep respect for its roots with an individual, expressive playing style.
Beyond banjo, my influences include traditional Appalachian ballad singers, and the broader musical traditions American folk.
My approach emphasizes rhythmic drive, expressive vocals, and the character of traditional music rather than the polished sound of contemporary bluegrass.
