I'm a freelance euphonium and trombone player out of Mankato, MN. I regularly play with several area groups including: Mankato Symphony Orchestra, Powerhouse, Schell's Hobo Band, Mostly Conical Brass Quartet, Bass Brand Brass Band, Echos, Original German Band, MN River Valley Wind Ensemble, Mankato Area Community Band, Lake Crystal Community Band, MN State University Theatre Pit Orchestra, and many more.
I'm also a composer and arranger of brass and band music, having done dozens of arrangements and original works for brass ensembles, concert bands and rock band horn charts. I also give lessons to low brass students and am an adjunct instructor at Bethany Lutheran College.

Gig Length: 15 - 180 minutes
What to Expect
I am an excellent, professional musician.
I try to communicate accurately and quickly. After all, I usually want the gig!
I am able to sightread music with ease.
I have played with many different people and in many different situations so I am just as good a follower as a leader.
When working with other musicians, I am sensitive to what else is going on and am able to blend or come through the musical texture.
Sarah Houle is a Euphonium and Trombone player originally from Stacy, Minnesota. She came to Mankato in the fall of 1999 to attend college at Minnesota State University, Mankato and graduated in 2003 with a Bachelor of Music in Euphonium and Trombone Performance. Throughout high school and college, she has studied under several different instructors including Lee Dummer, Stewart Ross, Gerard Aloisio, Charles Dodson, and Paul Budde.
Sarah tries to play any chance she gets and is a regular with a number of area groups such as the Mankato Symphony, Mankato Area Community Band, Bass Brand Brass Band, Echos, Schell’s Hobo Band, Minnesota River Valley Wind Ensemble, Minnesota River Valley Trombone Choir, and the Minnesota State University, Mankato, Theater Pit Orchestra. Other ensembles she has played with include the Govenaires Drum and Bugle Corps, Lake Crystal Community Band, Amboy Band, Minnesota Valley Faculty Brass Quintet, Southern Minnesota Big Band, Tremendous Blast, and the New Ulm German Band. She especially loves the challenge of playing in a live pit orchestra and has played for more than fifteen different shows, including a four month national tour of “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes”.
Sarah has had the privilege of soloing with her own high school band, regularly at United Church of Christ, MSU’s Concert Wind Ensemble, and each year with the Mankato Area Community Band. In 2008, at the Drum Corps Associates finals in Rochester, New York, Sarah won first place baritone soloist in the Instrumental Solo and Ensemble competition by playing her own virtuosic arrangement on the themes of Star Wars.
Among other things, Sarah enjoys writing and arranging music, especially for Bass Brand Brass Band, a group which she co-founded when she was in college. She also gives private lessons on euphonium, trombone, and tuba. She equally enjoys helping enthusiastic beginners learn new things to teaching more advanced students on the subtleties of musical interpretation. She is also a long-time employee at the Music Mart in Mankato.
