Overview

Sarah and the Houligans is a traditional NOLA style jazz band. The group began playing together on decks and driveways and over live stream during the summer of 2020 when many musicians were out of work due to shuttered venues. Reminiscent of the numerous pick-up bands of New Orleans, our music will transport you to one of the many tiny, hole in the wall clubs of the French Quarter that entice people in with the sounds of traditional jazz. The members of Sarah and the Houligans come from a variety of backgrounds, from NOLA brass band to big top jam band to marching band and orchestra, bringing their individual experiences to the ensemble.

What to expect

Every musician in our band has brought their own wealth of experience to our group. We've all been around, playing with other groups in other styles and genres, and everyone is professional.

We all bring our best to the group. The best part is we all love playing together and having a good time...which reflects in our performance!

About

Sarah and the Houligans is a 6-piece traditional NOLA style jazz band based out of southern Minnesota. Our instrumentation is Guitar/Vocals, Clarinet, Trumpet, Trombone/Accordion, Tuba, and Percussion.

Our repertoire list is ever-growing and includes original music and tailored arrangements written by members of our band. Our original music reflects the traditional NOLA jazz band style. Our arrangements of traditional jazz standards are tailored to our instrumentation and the sound we seek to create.

Setup requirements

Equipment needs depend on the performance.

We usually will require power of some kind for the vocals and guitar amp. Depending on the performance, we may need to mic the tuba, clarinet, accordion, trumpet and trombone, and have a backup vocal mic for these instruments as well.

Larger venues or longer gigs will most likely require hiring a sound tech to run everything during the performance. We are very comfortable working with a sound tech and everything that may entail.
