Whether you're celebrating a wedding union, birthday party, corporate event or commemorating the loss of a loved one, bagpipes are a unique, symbolic and beautiful way to evoke emotion. My background has been in events for the last 10 years, and my experience will shine through for your special event. I am the band manager for The Capitol City Highlanders; a full group including drum/snare/toms and additional pipers, so I'm able to offer solo, ensemble and full band performances.
We had Ryan, and 2 drummers, play our St Patrick’s day brunch and it was one of the coolest things we have ever done! The music is so powerful and impressive; our guests loved it!!!
Ryan was very responsive during our communicantion and very accommodating of our plans and time constraints.
I can’t say enough good things about the whole experience; it was awesome!!!
Ryan came and played during our St. Patrick's Day parade. Afterwards, he walked around to the classrooms, took pictures, answered questions, and talked about his culture. He is amazing with the children and knows how to give explanations on their level. Will definitely be booking him again soon!
Response from Ryan Guthrie - Austin Piper:
You guys were a blast! I loved the mixed reactions of the little kids, from delight to terror. They were all great and thank you for having me out!
We contacted Ryan about playing the bagpipes at my mothers funeral with very little notice. Ryan was able to work with my family and the funeral home in a timely manner to ensure my mother’s service would be professional and unintrusive. Ryan arrived early and very prepared, dressed in the traditional Scottish attire he looked amazing and his bagpiping was wonderful. Very compassionate, he inquired as to what song my mother would have liked or if there was a song that a family member would like to request. I would recommend and welcome Ryan and his bagpipes to any event or occasion both happy or sad.

What to Expect
There's a lot of variety in the events I do; from weddings and funerals, to parades, private events, festivals, etc. The commonality between all of these is that I fully commit to every event, large or small, and bring everything I can to make that event great. My experiences as an entertainer for 10 years means that I dress the part, act the part and fully engage to every audience I encounter.
Scottish by descent, I grew up attending Scottish and Irish festivals, fell asleep to the sounds of my parents singing "The Bonny Banks o' Loch Lomond" and "My Bonnie Lies over the Ocean", and was always overtaken by the sounds of the bagpipes. It wasn't until I was an adult that I finally gave them a chance and it completely changed the course of my life. I love everything Highland and Celtic.
I am the manager of the longest established pipe band in Austin, the Capitol City Highlanders. We're a street band that plays all types of events, including parades, bars, parties, weddings and funerals.
I owned and operated the largest entertainment company for private events and weddings for 10 years. Recently, I sold my business in pursuit of other opportunities, bagpipes being one of them. I still love being part of events, and bagpipes are a way that I can contribute to all types of events. I've been amazed at the variety of people I've met and the opportunities I've had because of my pursuits with bagpipes and look forward to many more adventures.
Additional Booking Notes
I play the Great Highland Bagpipes. They are a loud instrument, designed to be played outdoors.
While EVERYONE loves the bagpipes, they are called "drones" for a reason...and after about 20 minutes they can start to wear-down your audience. I generally recommend a set of no longer than about 30 minutes, or have playing intermittently throughout your event. For birthday parties and such, it's fun to play a song, then talk about the pipes, Scottish Culture, the song, etc before playing the next song so that everyone's ears get a break. I do interact with most of my audiences.
