What to Expect
Rough Jazz was delighted recently with the reception they received playing in a new town to a new audience. With new members and new energy “the band is sounding the best it ever has”’ says leader, and saxophonist Steve Fletcher. Recreating the music of our jazz heroes from the 1950s’, 60 s’, & 70’s has brought together 5 musicians from 4 different cities and two different generations. The balance between experience and youth often adds a twist to the jazz we play.
6 years ago alto saxophonist, Steve Fletcher convinced drummer Brandon Goldner to try playing jazz. After a few years of playing, adding some players, and then personnel changes, the groove started to settle. “The feel of the music just clicked, and we knew the time was just right to bring back this classic sound.” said Steve.
The band is faithful to the sound of the original recordings as a starting and finishing point. Rough Jazz’s drummer, Brandon spiced up the mix somewhere in the middle of most tunes to keep the rhythm section on their toes. The combination worked, and it gave Rough Jazz a unique edge that defines the band’s sound.”
Rough Jazz strives to push their own creative boundaries and provide a creative outlet for it’s musicians. The band would like to expand from playing Central Willamette Valley bars and clubs to playing for private parties, wineries, weddings, and summer concerts in the parks.
