Ricky Persaud, Jr. & Crossroads

You can expect your audience to have a great time with good music and great musicians. We play a mixture of songs from Blues, Rock, Reggae and R&B.

Biography

Ricky received his first instrument at age 1. He started taking music classes at age 4 at Music Together in South Orange, New Jersey. Ricky was accepted by the Newark School of the Arts to study drums also at the age 4. When Ricky was 8 years old he would go with his brother Nicholas, who was 5, to his weekly guitar lessons at Mark Murphy Music School in South Orange, New Jersey. Ricky studied Nicholas homework and taught himself how to play the guitar. By the age of 10 Ricky could perform Bob Marley's songs on the guitar.

Along with drums, Ricky started taking bass lessons at the Newark School of the Arts at the age of 11. Still drawn to the guitar, Ricky decided to take guitar lessons at the age of 12. At the age of 14 Ricky discovered Billy Joel. He taught himself how to play the harmonica and keyboards. Shortly after, Ricky started taking piano lessons in school and at the Newark School of the Arts. Upon the passing of his guitar and bass teacher, jazz guitarist, Hayes Johnson, Ricky put the guitar aside. Ricky's mom encouraged Ricky to give guitar lessons another try. So, Ricky enrolled in the school that introduced him to the guitar, Mark Murphy School of Music in South Orange, NJ.

Ricky along with his brother Nicholas perform weekly on Inside with Valerie Persaud, the TV Show which airs on Comcast, Cablevision and Verizon Fios throughout the state of NJ. Fans of the show outside of the United States such as Canada, Hungary, China, Brazil, India Germany and France, just to name a few, watch the show via the shows website (link hidden), Youtube, Facebook, and Vimeo.

Past Projects

Ricky has recorded 2 albums. His first album he recorded when he was 14 years old. He arranged the music and played all the instruments on the album. His second album was recorded when he was 15 years old and again he played all the instruments on the album and sang the lead and background vocals. Ricky is currently finishing up his third album.

Band

Ricky is a member of three different bands. Ricky is the front man on vocals and guitar for a band called Smoothies. The band style of music is Rock and Alternative Rock.

Ricky is also the front man on vocals and guitar for the threesome band at Mark Murphy Music where they perform covers of R&B, Rock and Blues music.

Lastly, Ricky is the front man on vocals and guitar for Ricky Persaud, Jr. and Crossroads whose music style is R&B, Jazz, Blues & Reggae. Crossroads consists of Ron G. on Drums, Emmanuel R. on Keyboards, Dan G on Bass, and Nicholas P. on Guitar and Bass.
