RAY OLAN BIO
Born in Puerto Rico and raised in Brooklyn, Mr. Ray "Ray" Olan
(Pianist / vocals and percussion) started his musical journey at 11
years old playing guitar with a Latin Rock band called the Young Lads.
He specializes in Latin Beatles salsa...
After moving to the Big Apple he started chaperoning his older sisters to
Latin dances where he was band boy for groups like Tito Puente, Eddie
& Charlie Palmeri, Ray Barretto and Richie Ray. in 1969 Olan started
the Salsa Band " Ray Olan y su Sason" age: 15 years old. Recorded with
Alegre Records (Sugar on Sunday) producer Ralph Lew of Richie Ray fame
and Eddie Palmeri early days producer.
Spearheading his group at that early age he crossed paths with young Willie Colon, The Lebron
Brothers, Orchestra DJ and many more. At 16 Olan was the house band at
the 3&1 Club in Brooklyn.His innovative style of Crossover Salsa with
Rock Guitarist Steve Katz of "Blood Sweat and Tears) made him open new horizons, performing Latin Salsa with English
lyrics like Olan was. A graduate of Hoftsra University, now moved to Dallas Texas, he has founded a great deal of Children's programs in Musical Theater which was really his calling in West Florida, teaching musical theater, and
directing children's educational programs.He has returned to the Latin Scene with his new Ray Olan & the Jazz Ole Band, featuring some of Dallas Finest Bilingual Salsa Vocalist and Instrumentalist.
