What to expect

I'm happy performing House Concerts, Club Gigs, indoor or outdoor Concerts, Fairs and Festivals. My soulful solo-acoustic repertoire of originals includes songs recorded by such artists as Toby Keith, Tim McGraw, and Indigo Girls, as well as cover arrangements of songs popularized by Bob Marley, Tom Petty, Supertramp, Van Morrison and other classic artists.

While I'm quite capable of providing ambient, background music, I much prefer an environment where the audience is focused on the performance. I'm also experienced at facilitating meetings, topical discussions, brainstorming sessions, and group visualizations. I strongly believe that respectful, constructive communication is the key to addressing issues, finding solutions, and making positive change. And I am committed to using my talents toward passing a healthier, cleaner, more peaceful world on to my children and grandchildren.

About

Oregon native Rand Bishop grew up in the suburbs of Portland fixated on two equally impractical goals: to become a stage actor or a rock star. After a season of bit parts at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Rand chose the latter path.

During the 1970s and ’80s, Rand recorded for Elektra, A&M, Sony, and MCA and shared stages with The Doors, Alice Cooper, James Taylor, Rod Stewart, and Credence Clearwater, while honing his tune-smithing craft. Quickly tiring of the road, he transitioned to “the other side of the desk,” to earn his stripes as a platinum music producer, talent-development executive, and music publisher. A Grammy-nominated, BMI Award-winning, Million-play songwriter, Rand counts over 300 diverse credits: from the Beach Boys to Tim McGraw, Heart to Indigo Girls. His compositions have been featured in more than a dozen feature-film and television soundtracks and have generated in excess of 20 million sales.

Positive public response to “My List” (Tim James/Rand Bishop) — a five-week #1 for Toby Keith, and the most-played country single of 2002 — inspired Rand to co-author the companion book, My List, 24 Reflections on Life’s Priorities (McGraw-Hill, 2003). Since that publication, he has authored three additional books, including the novel Grand Pop, which spent two years in various stages of development as a premium-cable series. Rand has contributed to several produced stage plays, authored optioned and award- winning screenplays, and pens a regular column for American Songwriter Magazine.

After lengthy stints in L.A. and Nashville, Rand returned to his Oregon roots in 2012, settling in Newport, where he continues to write, record, and perform.
