The perfect music for my event

Rachel has a lovely voice and an equally lovely personality. She was easy to work with and responsive. We had some special requests for songs and she handled them with ease and grace.. I would definitely book her again.

Awesome Singer and Collaborator

I decided to have a band play for our wedding in August. We had everybody but a singer. Found Rachel on here and it was awesome!

We were limited on time and had one rehearsal prior to the reception. In fact, the first time the whole band played together was at the reception. But because of how quickly she learned the songs we played and her versality, she made the night so much fun! She's very talented and had so many positive reviews from my other family and friends.

If you are planning an event and need a female singer for solo, duo, and/or band performances, hire Rachel! You won't be disappointed.

What to expect

As a performer, I can play up to two hours of original material, or 2+ hours of covers, either as a solo performer or as a duo with guitarist and vocalist Jack Byrne.

As an instructor, I strive to facilitate a comfortable learning environment for students to ask any questions and make any commentary they see fit. Music making is a very personal and individualized experience, and I seek to meet each student where they are.

About

Rachel Marie Schachter is a teacher of voice, beginner guitar, and general music studies, holding a Master of Music degree in Early Music, Vocal Performance from the Longy School of Music of Bard College, where she also earned the Presidential Award in Teaching Artistry. As a folk singer-songwriter and an early music vocalist, Rachel strives to facilitate empathic and cathartic experiences for her audiences. As a private music instructor, Rachel carries that empathy and openness into the studio. Whether the instrument be voice or guitar, or the students be children or adults, Rachel seeks to meet those students where they are to allow for a comfortable environment for vulnerability and growth.

Rachel’s teaching experience includes private students as well as classroom general music, songwriting courses, and youth choirs. With children and adult beginners, Rachel focuses on music fundamentals, using guitar or voice as a tool to understand the structures and systems of music. Rachel wants her students to understand not just music, but their instrument, especially when that instrument is their own body. Such an understanding allows students to evaluate and improve their own technique as a result of private instruction. Through honest and open communication with students, Rachel works to develop an arsenal of technical exercises for each student as well as repertoire appropriate for the growth of each student.

Accepting students for the summer months as well as Fall 2018.
