Just the best

I had the chance to see Humberto Scanio play trumpet recently, and he really delivered. He seamlessly added songs I requested into his set, which showed his flexibility and professionalism. His stage presence is solid he knows how to hold the room and keep people engaged. Honestly, he elevated the whole event just by being there. If you’re looking for a skilled, reliable musician who gets the job done and keeps it real, he’s your guy.

About

Born in Santiago, Chile, Humberto discovered his passion for the trumpet at age 13, teaching himself to play after school. His early influences, including the smooth sounds of Chuck Mangione and the timeless melodies of Herb Alpert, helped shape his unique musical voice. His early musical journey flourished in Miami, where he performed within various ensembles, including the Greater Miami Symphonic Band and two seasons with the University of Miami’s Band of the Hour ((phone number hidden)8).

His most defining musical experiences came through Drum and Bugle Corps, where he played lead soprano for two esteemed corps—the Magic of Orlando and the Boston Crusaders. However, it was with the Concord Blue Devils that he achieved one of his proudest moments: winning the DCI World Championship in 1999, an accomplishment that solidified his love for performance and the spirit of competition.

After his time in the corps, Humberto took an extended break from music, allowing his trumpet to gather dust for over a decade. But in 2013, music called him back, and he joyfully revived his connection with the trumpet. This new chapter brought with it a renewed sense of purpose, and since 2016, Humberto has devoted himself to a career in music, sharing the emotions and stories that his trumpet so powerfully expresses. Through his playing, he channels not only technical mastery but a deep, soulful connection to the audience, transforming each note into a heartfelt experience.

Humberto’s style leans toward a mellow, smooth jazz trumpet sound, seamlessly blending jazz standards with touches of Bossa Nova, hints of Buena Vista Social Club influence, and elements of world music, with some light improvisation woven throughout.

He has had the privilege of performing in a variety of settings, ranging from the rich, traditional sounds of Mariachi groups to the soulful grooves of R&B bands and the vibrant rhythms of Latin trios and quartets. Humberto has also embraced the freedom of solo performances, improvising over carefully crafted backing tracks.

Recently, he has developed a deep appreciation for the simplicity and nuance of the duet format, often pairing his trumpet with either piano or classical guitar. This setup fosters a more intimate, expressive experience, where each note breathes and every subtle interaction adds depth to the music, creating a personal and dynamic atmosphere for both the performers and the listeners.

Humberto is a dynamic trumpet player whose performances have captivated audiences across the UK, Cayman Islands, Italy, Finland, India, Netherlands, Portugal, and the Dominican Republic. With a versatile style and a flair for creating unforgettable musical experiences, he has brought his talent to many corporate and private events, leaving a lasting impression.

Additional booking notes

Technical & Performance Requirements
Sound:

I perform with a wireless microphone system, allowing me to move freely around the venue and interact with guests when appropriate.

I provide my own Mackie Thump GO 8” portable speaker — a 200W, battery-powered Class-D amplifier that delivers excellent sound for most small-to-medium indoor or outdoor events.

For larger venues or events needing greater volume or sound coverage, I’m happy to coordinate with the client to arrange additional sound support if needed.

Lighting:

I do not require special stage lighting. However, general ambient or performance lighting should be adequate for visibility and guest engagement.

For formal events or evening performances, subtle spotlighting or warm uplighting enhances the ambiance but is not essential.

Staging & Space:

My setup is compact and requires minimal space — perfect for intimate gatherings, cocktail hours, or mobile performance settings.

A high stool is appreciated for sitting during part of the set.

I do not require a raised stage, though I can adapt if one is provided.

Influences and inspiration

My sound is shaped by legendary trumpet players like Chuck Mangione, Herb Alpert, Chris Botti, Arturo Sandoval, and Wynton Marsalis — each of whom inspired me with their unique voice and emotional depth.

Growing up in Argentina, I was especially moved by Tango music, which continues to resonate deeply with me. The trumpet’s ability to convey both passion and mystery - its beautiful, enigmatic timbre - has always stirred my soul and remains a central influence in the way I express emotion through performance.

Setup requirements

Access to one standard power outlet (if indoors or power is available)

If outdoors, access to a shaded or covered area is preferred to protect equipment

High stool or tall chair for partial seated performance

Adequate lighting in the performance area (ambient or stage lighting — no special effects needed)

For larger events or venues, client may need to provide or rent a larger PA system or allow coordination with an AV provider
