PETER (PIOTR) CIESLIKOWSKI PROFESSIONAL PROFILE
Peter Cieslikowski is a Polish-born Canadian saxophonist, composer, and bandleader. Before immigrating to Canada in 2012, he established himself as one of Poland's leading saxophonists, earning widespread recognition both at home and abroad. Throughout his career, Peter has recorded fourteen albums and toured with American jazz legends, including saxophonists Scott Hamilton and Ronnie Cuber, Hammond organist Dr. Lonnie Smith, drummer Duffy Jackson, and guitarist Mark Whitfield.
Since moving to Canada, Peter has become an active fixture on the Toronto jazz scene, performing and recording with prominent Canadian figures such as pianists Robi Botos and Jan Jarczyk, saxophonist Pat LaBarbera, trumpeter Jacques Kuba Séguin, and drummer Chris Wallace. In 2015, he made his Canadian recording debut with The Timeless Quartet on the album Timeless Classics, featuring special guest Pat LaBarbera.
Peter’s stylistic influences are deeply rooted in the tradition of tenor saxophone masters like Lester Young, Ben Webster, and Stan Getz. He possesses a unique ability to transform these traditional elements into modern, and even avant-garde, expressions. Evolving on his own artistic path rather than following fleeting trends, Peter has developed a distinct and instantly recognizable voice. His exceptional stylistic versatility and original phrasing allow him to feel equally at home with Swing, Bebop, and Mainstream, as well as Funk, Soul, Blues, and post-Coltrane avant-garde jazz.
In 2008, Peter was awarded the prestigious "Meritorious for Polish Culture" medal by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland in recognition of his outstanding artistic achievements. His latest quartet album, Chopin Pianoless, was released in 2025 by the Montreal-based label Odd Sound as a digital album, available on Spotify, iTunes, YouTube Music, and other major streaming platforms.
