What to expect

I enjoy sharing the process and this amazing experience with all my clients. I guarantee you will never forget having your portrait taken! After you arrived and we have met and settled I will pour collodion on the plate and begin sensitization in silver which takes about three minutes. At this time I will compose the picture and ensure lighting is configured. Once we are set on the composition I will retrieve the plate from the silver bath and bring it to the camera. I will then take the shot and using strobe takes under a second. After a big flash I will then take the exposed plate to the darkroom and develop, wash and reveal the image with fixer. You are invited to video the fixing which is an exciting part of the process. Once the image is fixed and washed it is dried and then varnished to seal it from the environment forever. You are able to take it home on the day.

About

I am a wet plate collodion and large format photographer that creates custom images that are fixed on metal plates aka tintypes. The images are hand made and provide a unique look with a level of detail that is extraordinary. The type of photography was widely used from (phone number hidden)0. Each plate is a unique handmade piece that takes about twenty - thirty minutes to prepare, shoot, develop using my portable darkroom and then fix. You will be able to keep the aluminum plate and I am also able to provide a digital file/prints. This photographic art form is rare and produces a very beautiful keepsake that will last more than 150 years. Watching the image appear on the plate is something you don't want to miss. The images have a specific look and due to the nature of the chemical processes also come with imperfections that digital photos do not have. I am able to take 4x5 or 8x10 plates and can be hired at an hourly rate based on a the size of plate required or on a per plate basis priced accordingly to the size of plate required. I will can produce at least 2 plates an hour. The process needs light to work well so outdoor shoots can be done during the daylight conditions or at night with strobe lights - access to electricity is required. Take a look at my gallery to see if this is something for you. We are able to supply typical props you would find at any photo booth.
