Like a fine Scotch whisky,
Peat & Barley's music is complex, inviting and always goes down smooth. Their special Celtic blend of hammered dulcimer and fiddle - trading melody, rhythm and harmony - draws the listener into the ebb and flow of the music in a centering and refreshing way.
From concert performances to background music, from festivals and fundraisers to private parties and weddings, we can add a special flair to your event.
I booked half of Peat and Barley to perform at a center for senior citizens with other disabilities. Becky provided us with a lot of fun facts about the music to really connect us to each song. This is a really tough crowd to perform for, probably the toughest due to attention spans and fatigue but people were up out of their seats and even singing along. It was a wonderful time and a huge hit!
Peat and Barley played for a reception at our home in the Washington, DC, area. They were professional in every way: quickly responding to inquiries, sending promptly the requested contract, checking in by email a few days in advance of the event, arriving on time and allowing plenty of time for setting up, and kindly responding to requests. But most importantly, their music touches the soul. As our guests arrived, I delighted in watching them smile as they listened to the msic of Peat and Barley. The music set the tone for the entire evening: celebratory, playful, elegant, and soothing. I can recommend Peat and Barley without reservation. You would be fortunate to book them for any special event or family celebration.
Professional, talented, all around awesome!
Bill and Becky performed Celtic music for us in our living room on Valentines Day. They were great. Bill played dulcimer and Becky played the fiddle. They are a nice, laid-back couple that are in tune with each other and the music. As advertised, they are good with rhythm, melody and harmony.

Peat & Barley have performed for enthusiastic audiences throughout Maryland, Virginia and D.C. including Celtic and Scottish music festivals, weddings, corporate events and private parties.
Bill has played the hammered dulcimer since 1992 and was inspired to play from his first experience of hearing a hammered dulcimer. He is a self-taught player and is particularly noted for his strong accompaniment skills. Bill's playing incorporates the full range of his hammered dulcimer from the shimmering sparkle of the highest treble notes to the depth and power of the lowest bass notes.
Becky was classically trained on violin during her schooldays but was drawn to begin playing again in 1991 after discovering Celtic fiddle music. Her playing is known for her rich tone and sensitive emotional connection to the music, whether that is a sorrowful Scottish lament, a majestic march or a driving reel. Becky also plays regularly for Scottish and English Country Dances in the D.C. area.
