A long-time professional pianist who has worked around the world (from China and the Middle East to top venues throughout the United States), Mr. Ward is a master of the American Popular Songbook (Cole Porter, Rodgers & Hart, Jimmy Van Heusen/Johnny Burke, etc.) and comfortable with more contemporary popular and jazz styles. He worked as a regular pianist at The Prime Rib in Washington DC as well as The Willard Hotel and The Hay-Adams Hotel, and has gigged at the prestigious Blues Alley. He can work easily with a jazz duo (adding upright bass players) or with a trio as well. Choose Paul for that classic, exciting, and romantic jazz sound you want at your event or venue.
I was lucky enough to catch the Davidson College Jazz Ensemble at Blues Alley, which invites alumni to join the band. Paul, a Davidson alum, anchored the band with his classic, fluid jazz chops alongside legendary D.C. saxophonist Bruce Swaim. Paul and Bruce were as good as it gets at Blues Alley! Paul pulled out Count Basie and some modern chops on a big feature (Softly as in a Morning Sunrise). It was a great night in a classic venue.
