NoPo Big Band

We are a lively swing band made up of standard personnel of 4 trumpets, 4 trombones, 5 saxes, a piano, bass and drums. We are occasionally joined by a vocalist when requested. The band has an extensive library of music to choose from, and if sufficient lead time is given the band can procure music by request at an additional cost.

The NoPo Big Band, a 17 piece traditional big band that was started in North Portland over a decade ago. We play a variety of music, ranging from classic swing era tunes to more modern jazz, rock, funk, and swing big band arrangements.

The NoPo philosophy is rooted in community, and band members include musicians with varied backgrounds and experience. NoPo Big Band serves as forum, a supportive atmosphere to explore the music, encouraging each member to take solos and take risks. In this way, each member strives to advance his or her own musicianship. By providing high quality big band music, we hope to develop an appreciation for this style of music, and enrich the lives of the Portland community.

The band had a PA system and can do its own sound or run through the venue's system. Access to power for electric instruments is a must as well as seating for the band.

Our minimum stage size is 12′ w x 15′ d. It does not need to be a literal stage, but we do need that much space to set up.
