Born in Athens, Greece, Nikos Chatzitsakos has been engaged with music from an early age. He attended the "Music School of Ilion", where he studied the cello and where he was introduced to Jazz for the first time. After finishing school, he entered the "National & Kapodistrian University of Athens" where he studied Musicology. At that time, he decided to play the double bass because he wanted to devote his musical career to Jazz. He studied the double bass in Greece with Periklis Trivolis and Tasos Kazaglis. He has been active in the musical scene of Greece since 2014.
In 2016, after auditioning for "Berklee College of Music", he received a full time - full tuition scholarship. In the fall of 2016, Nikos began studying at Berklee as a dual major "Performance and Jazz Composition" undergraduate student. There, he has studied with Ron Mahdi, John Lockwood, Susan Hagen, Terence Blanchard, Ralph Peterson, Darren Barrett, Billy Kilson, Robert Rodriguez, and Dave Santoro. During his time at Berklee, he has been active in the Boston music scene. He has performed at Scullers Jazz Club, The Berklee Performance Center (BPC), The Red Room @ Cafe 939, David Friend Recital Hall, Wally's Jazz Cafe, The Bebop, Boston Social Club, and more.
Nikos has performed alongside distinguished musicians such as Sarah Reich (tap dancer), Tony Romano (Guitar), Lenny Sendersky (Sax), George Kontrafouris (Piano), Takis Paterelis (Sax), Dimitris Kalantzis (Piano), Spiros Panagiotopoulos (Drums), Dimitris Angelakis (Vibraphone), Katerina Polemi (Vocal & Guitar).
He is also the leader of the Nikos Chatzitsakos Octet & Quartet, for which he arranges and composes music for the bands. The Octet performs arrangements on jazz standards and original music for an instrumentation of 5 horns and rhythm section in the style of Jazz. The bands are active in the Boston and Greek music scene with different lineups.
