Overview

Neighborhood Kids is Chuck and Chris — a Chicago acoustic duo for weddings, private events, and corporate gigs. Two voices, two guitars, professional PA, and a catalog spanning rock, soul, folk, and pop.

Chuck came up through the Chicago theater scene. Chris has played the Chicago scene for years — guitar with The Right Now, nearly 2,000 shows, and opening for George Clinton and Parliament-Funkadelic.

We play ceremonies, cocktail hour, dinner, and full receptions. We bring our own sound, run our own setup, and coordinate with your venue or planner to keep logistics easy. We adjust the set to match the moment.

Loose enough for a front-porch hang, tight enough for the first dance.

What to expect

Hire Neighborhood Kids and you get a duo that's calibrated to your event, not a generic wedding-band playlist running on autopilot.

Cocktail hour: vocal-forward, conversation-friendly. Songs guests recognize without being so loud they have to shout over them. Think Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel, Tom Petty, Norah Jones, James Taylor — warm, rounded, easy.

Ceremony: we play whatever song means something to you. Processional, recessional, signing of the license — we've done quiet acoustic takes on pop songs, traditional ceremony pieces, and family heirloom selections. We coordinate with your officiant on cues so transitions are clean.

Dinner and reception: builds gradually. Start mellow during dinner, shift into upbeat once the dancing starts. Catalog runs rock, soul, folk, and pop — Harry Styles, Dave Matthews, Dobie Gray, The Right Now, plus enough crowd-pleasers to keep the floor moving without leaning on novelty hits.

What you don't get: a karaoke-machine vibe, cheesy DJ banter, awkward dead time between songs, or a band that ignores your timeline. We're working musicians, not entertainers — meaning we let the music carry the night and stay out of the way otherwise.

What we bring: full PA system, two vocal mics, two acoustic guitar inputs, a stage monitor, mains, mixer, all cables and stands. Setup is around 45 minutes; breakdown is 30. We arrive 60-90 minutes before the first downbeat to load in, set up, and soundcheck.

What we coordinate with you ahead of time: your timeline, must-play songs, do-not-play songs, special moments (first dance, parent dances, processional, etc.), pronunciation of any names we'll be announcing, and any specific cues your officiant or planner needs us to hit.

Most couples we work with are looking for a band that takes the day seriously without taking themselves seriously. That's us.

About

Neighborhood Kids is Chuck and Chris — a Chicago acoustic duo for weddings, private events, and corporate gigs. Two voices, two guitars, professional PA, and a catalog spanning rock, soul, folk, and pop.

We met playing in different bands around the Chicago music scene and started Neighborhood Kids because the music we both loved most — songs you actually want to sing along to, played in arrangements that breathe — wasn't getting played enough at weddings and private events. Most acoustic acts stick to one lane: all mellow background, or all upbeat covers, never both. We wanted a duo that could shift gears with the night.

Chuck came up through the Chicago theater scene — plays, musicals, festivals — and brings that performer's instinct to every set. Knowing how to deliver a moment, how to pace an arc, how to read what the day needs and adjust on the fly. Chris has played the Chicago scene for years — guitar with The Right Now, nearly 2,000 shows across his career, including opening for George Clinton and Parliament-Funkadelic. Between us, we've played enough weddings, ceremonies, corporate events, festivals, and bar nights to know how to make a day work.

What that looks like in practice: cocktail hour stays mellow. The dance floor gets loud. Ceremony gets the feel that matters most — quiet, upbeat, or somewhere in between, built around the song that means something to you. We coordinate closely with your venue and planner so transitions are smooth and timing is right. We bring our own sound, run our own setup, and adjust the set in real time based on what the night needs.

Our catalog runs from The Beatles to Harry Styles, Tom Petty to Dave Matthews, Simon & Garfunkel to Dobie Gray. We're happy to learn one or two special songs for your event with enough notice — first dance, processional, recessional, or whatever song matters most.

We play across Chicago and the surrounding suburbs at no travel charge, including the city, the Northern, Western, Southern, Southwest, and Northwest suburbs, West Kane County, South Will County, and Northwest Indiana. For events outside that zone, we're happy to provide a custom quote.

Loose enough for a front-porch hang, tight enough for the first dance.

Additional booking notes

SOUND
We bring a full self-contained PA system suitable for indoor or outdoor events up to roughly 150 guests. Two vocal mics, two acoustic guitar inputs, a stage monitor, two main speakers on stands, a digital mixer, all cables, and DI boxes. We do our own sound — no separate engineer needed.

For events larger than 150 guests or venues with unusual acoustics (large outdoor spaces, hard-surface industrial venues, etc.), we're happy to coordinate with your venue's house system or recommend a sound rental. Talk to us early so we can plan accordingly.

POWER
Two standard 120V outlets within 25 feet of the performance area. For outdoor events without nearby power (remote ceremony spots, etc.), let us know early — we can usually plan a workaround with the venue or a generator.

SPACE
A flat performance area roughly 8' x 6' minimum (larger is welcome). We can play on a stage, a riser, or floor-level — whatever the venue offers. We don't need risers or special platforms.

OUTDOOR EVENTS
Shelter from rain and direct sun is required. A tent, gazebo, covered patio, or pergola all work. We can play in moderate heat or cold but need to protect the equipment from precipitation and avoid direct sun on the gear (heat damage).

LIGHTING
We don't bring stage lighting — venues typically provide ambient lighting that works fine. If your event is at a venue without lighting (backyard wedding, etc.), basic string lights or floor lighting in the performance area is plenty.

SOUNDCHECK
We arrive 60-90 minutes before the first downbeat to load in, set up, and soundcheck. If the venue has restricted access windows (some hotels, historic buildings, country clubs), let us know early so we can plan around it.

BREAKS
We take a 10-minute break each hour. We pipe in our own curated playlist through the PA during breaks so the music never stops.

MUSIC REQUESTS
We're happy to learn one or two special songs for your event with at least 7 days' notice — first dance, processional, etc. Last-minute additions usually aren't possible because we want to play them well, not approximate them.

LOAD-IN
We need access to the performance area within reasonable walking distance of a parking spot or loading area. If the venue has stairs, narrow doorways, freight elevators, or unusual access, let us know — we'll plan accordingly.
