Overview

I’ve never been to school, and that gives me a very different lens on education. Growing up unschooled in rural Alaska and later raising my son while roadschooling full-time, I’ve lived outside the system my whole life.

My talk, Reimagining Education, helps families break free from the old model and embrace a new way of learning. I guide parents to let go of school-based assumptions, build confidence in child-led learning, and create a lifestyle that sparks curiosity, resilience, and real-world skills.

With millions of families now homeschooling (many who never expected to), this session offers inspiration and practical strategies to help them thrive, not just survive, in this new chapter.

What to expect

When you bring me in as a speaker, your audience won’t just get another lecture, they’ll get an experience that combines story, strategy, and inspiration. I speak from lived experience as someone who has never been to school, has raised my son through roadschooling full-time, and has helped families and entrepreneurs reimagine what’s possible outside the old models.

For Your Audience
Expect a talk that is engaging, real, and deeply relatable. I weave together personal stories, cultural insights, and practical takeaways that empower people to see themselves, and their children, in a new light. Audiences walk away feeling:

Inspired to think differently about education and life
Equipped with strategies they can use immediately
Validated in their instincts and choices
Energized to create environments that nurture curiosity, resilience, and growth

For You as the Event Planner
You can expect a professional partner who is easy to work with. I arrive prepared, adaptable, and respectful of your schedule and event goals. Whether it’s a keynote, a breakout session, or a workshop, I tailor the presentation to fit your audience and the flow of your event.

If You’re Booking Me for a Workshop or Client Session
Clients get more than inspiration, they get transformation. My workshops are interactive, hands-on, and designed to meet participants where they are. Depending on your needs, I can focus on:

Helping families deschool and build confidence in child-led learning
Guiding roadschoolers and worldschoolers in creating sustainable community and routines
Teaching Human Design basics for parents and families to better understand each other
Helping entrepreneurs align their brand and business with who they truly are

Every event is a chance to create connection. My goal is to make sure your audience not only hears my story, but also sees their own potential reflected back at them.

About

Moira Mills | Speaker, Consultant, and Lifelong Unschooler

I’ve never been to school. Growing up unschooled in rural Alaska, I learned by exploring the world around me, following my curiosity, and drawing from the wisdom of my family and community. That upbringing gave me a perspective most people never get: I see education not as something delivered inside a system, but as a living, breathing process that happens everywhere.

Later, I lived in cities like Brooklyn and Los Angeles, built my career as a Certified Rolfer® and health coach, and eventually became a mother. Raising my son while roadschooling full-time has only deepened my commitment to helping families break free from outdated models of learning and discover what education can look like when it’s led by real life.

Today, I speak to audiences across the country about reimagining education, homeschooling, and unschooling. My talks inspire parents, educators, and community leaders to think differently about how children learn, and to build environments where curiosity, creativity, and resilience thrive.

In addition to speaking, I run SoulPath Branding, a consulting practice where I help entrepreneurs and families align their work with who they truly are using sidereal Human Design and other tools. This unique blend of experience means I not only understand the struggles families face in education, but also how individuals can build authentic, thriving lives and businesses outside of traditional systems.

Topics I Speak On:
Reimagining Education: A new path for homeschooling families
Deschooling and Detoxing: Letting go of outdated assumptions
Roadschooling: Learning on the move and building community on the road
Human Design for Families: Understanding your children’s unique blueprint
Branding with Soul: Aligning your life and work with your true self

Audiences I Serve:
Homeschooling and unschooling groups
Parent associations and family conferences
Education reform events and workshops
Entrepreneur and small business gatherings
Podcasts, retreats, and online summits

At the heart of everything I do is the belief that when we stop forcing people into boxes, whether in school or in business, they come alive. My talks are equal parts story, philosophy, and practical insight, always leaving the audience with the sense that they are not broken, they are not behind, and they already have what it takes to build a better way forward.

Additional booking notes

One of the things event planners appreciate most about working with me is how low-maintenance I am. My talks and workshops can adapt to a variety of venues, from conference halls and retreat centers to classrooms, living rooms, or outdoor gatherings.

For best results, here’s what I typically request:

For Speaking Engagements (Keynotes, Talks, Panels):
Microphone: Handheld wireless or lavalier (clip-on) preferred
Sound system appropriate to the size of the room
Podium or small table available if needed
Projector and screen if visual slides are requested (not required for all talks)
Water nearby

For Workshops or Interactive Sessions:
Tables and chairs arranged to allow small group or partner discussion
Whiteboard, flip chart, or large notepad with markers (optional, but helpful)
Projector/screen for visual material if requested

General Notes:
I adapt easily to both formal and informal setups.
If AV support isn’t available, I can present without slides and still deliver a full experience.
I’m comfortable presenting indoors or outdoors, as long as the sound setup is appropriate for the space.

In short: I don’t require much. With a microphone, a space where people can see and hear clearly, and an environment that fosters connection, I can create the experience your audience is looking for.

Influences and inspiration

My work has been shaped by both lived experience and the voices of those who challenge how we think about education, freedom, and human potential.

Growing up unschooled in rural Alaska, my earliest influences were my family and community, people who lived resourcefully, followed their curiosity, and trusted real life as the best teacher.

As I began sharing my own perspective, I drew inspiration from visionaries like John Taylor Gatto, who exposed the hidden lessons of compulsory schooling, and Ivan Illich, whose book Deschooling Society opened the door to the concept of learning webs and community-based education. Thinkers like A.S. Neill of Summerhill and modern advocates of unschooling and worldschooling also influenced my approach.

Beyond education, I’ve been influenced by leaders and entrepreneurs who model authenticity, resilience, and innovation, people who show that breaking away from conventional paths can create new opportunities. My background as a Certified Rolfer® and health coach has also grounded me in body-based wisdom and the importance of alignment, which carries through into my work with families and entrepreneurs today.

Ultimately, my greatest influence has been my own son, London. Parenting and roadschooling with him has kept my work real, practical, and rooted in what families actually face day to day.
