Mermaid Hales has been a professional mermaid in the Virginia Beach area since 2012. With her degree in Environmental Sciences from the University of Virginia and years of experience as an environmental educator, Mermaid Hales mixes science and storytelling to help children look with wonder at the world around them. Mermaid Hales is passionate about marine conservation and raising children to be nature lovers and ocean protectors.

My mermaid tails are custom-made, pure silicone tails, so they look very realistic (More pictures can be seen on my Facebook and Instagram pages). Each of my tails has a built-in swim fin, allowing me to swim almost effortlessly. I am Advanced Open Water SCUBA certified (NAUI) and Level I Freediver certified (SSI), with a static breath hold of over four minutes.
Because my legs and feet are completely bound, I have limited mobility on land. For this reason, I usually bring an assistant and a wagon for transportation.
My costume prevents me from responding to injuries or incidents that occur on land or in the water. For this reason, I require extra adults and/or lifeguards present and alert at all times to help with safety, crowd control, and discipline. Mermaid Hales will not be held liable for any incident that occurs during an event.
My assistant and I will arrive about 30 minutes prior to the party to assess the space, set up, and change into costume. I can change poolside or in a private room or bathroom with enough space to lay the tail out on the floor.
