Overview
We're a duo playing songs you know and love! We love performing for audiences of all sizes. We cover a mix of softer, slower, ballad type songs - and up tempo songs that you'll want to sing along with. In fact, we encourage you to sing along! Think "Yacht Rock."
We'll talk with the audience every few songs; but if the vibe is more stay-in-the-background, we're fine with that, too. We can provide stage lighting for no extra charge; we can focus it on a dance floor instead of us if you'd like.
In addition, Gary the guitar player is a seasoned party DJ. If desired, we can play for part of your event, and DJ for another part.

March 14, 2025Great music addition
Melodica was so fun to have performing in our wine bar. High energy, audience involvement and great sound. We loved the play list. We will definitely have them back!

What to expect
We enjoy interacting with the crowd, but if the request is to just play, we can do that, too. And since Gary is a seasoned DJ, we can play live music for one part of an event, and DJ another part.
Since we focus on songs that are familiar, people often want to sing along. That's great! We encourage participation. (Jenny, Jenny, who can I turn to? Eight Six Seven 5309...)
Our repertoire includes softer, slower songs, and faster, rock-ier songs. We can shift one way or the other, or balance in the middle; just let us know what would work best during booking.
We're pretty easy going. We're not going to dictate what color the M&Ms should be. In fact, there don't have to be M&Ms. We just love playing music.
We want the attendees to be able to carry on a conversation, so even in a small coffee shop, we'll play at an appropriate volume level. No earplugs or shouting required.
We're perfectly happy playing to a bar crowd, but will always be family-friendly.
About
Steve and Gary knew each other through their kids' school, but unexpectedly became neighbors when Steve's family moved in next to Gary's family. They've both been in bands before (in fact, Steve is still in another band), but thought it might be fun - and extremely convenient, since they share a driveway - to get together one weekend afternoon and play a couple of songs.
That humble beginning turned into Melodica. Gary plays guitar, and his background as a drummer makes it straightforward for him to program his drum machine. Steve plays keyboards and sings, and his secret weapon is a trombone that he segues to during songs from bands like Chicago. They have a robust roster of songs they perform, but always seem to find another song or three that they want to add.
And Gary is also a seasoned DJ. That allows planners to have a live band for part of their event, and a DJ for another part.
They love playing music, so they get almost as much enjoyment from rehearsing as from performing for hundreds of people. Almost. They still love playing music for people, more.
Additional booking notes
As long as we have electricity, we're in good shape.
We are comfortable playing on flat ground (level with the audience) or on a stage.
We have a small PA. We use half of it for coffee shops, wine bars, and such; and the full setup for up to a high school gym sized space.
We also have specialized DJ gear, so we can play live music for part of an event and DJ another part.
We have a couple of lighting bars that we can use if space is available, and it fits the vibe, but it's not required.
We would like a footprint of 30 square feet or so. Our profile photo shows us set up in 4' deep by 8' wide.
