Usually performances are a wide-ranging mix of acoustic songs and instrumentals featuring some contemporary folk and acoustic rock songs, some traditional music from America, Ireland, Scotland and England, and a handful of original songs. I'll often provide some (brief) history of some of the older songs and am more than happy to field audience questions about the more unusual instruments I might be playing.
However, I can tailor the performance to suit the venue and occasion. If you need a couple hours of instrumental music for an art opening, cocktail hour or corporate reception, I can settle down in the corner with my harp and provide you some wonderful background tunes. If you want something a bit rowdier for a party, I can grab the guitar and mix some traditional drinking songs with acoustic covers of classic rock songs to get everyone singing along.
Matt DeBlass is a singer and multi-instrumentalist based in Southeastern Pennsylvania. He has around 20 years of gigging experience and is an avid collector of old folk songs. While he performs a lot of traditional Celtic material, he also has a broad repertoire of contemporary and original music.
Matt's musical journeys have taken him from his home state of New Jersey to Scotland and Ireland, and all across the eastern half of the US, and he's played music in such unusual spots as a castle in northern New York, a cave in Wisconsin and a trail rolling across Pennsylvania.
All of my string instruments have internal pickups and pre-amps, and accept a standard 1/4" guitar cable.
If I'm playing harp I will be seated, and require an approximately 6' square of floor or stage space. For guitar and voice performances I can stand up or sit on a chair or barstool, and occupy a slightly smaller area. If the performance requires multiple instruments (for example, a harp and guitar show), I need floor space to set instruments on stands behind me.
I can provide sound reinforcement for a small to moderately-sized event, or I can use your sound system.
Performance spaces should be protected from temperature extremes that can damage wooden instruments. If the performance is outdoors, there should be shelter from rain or extended periods of direct sunlight. Short performances in the open are fine, but for extended outdoor performances I'll need some sort of coverage to keep me and the instruments healthy (if you're uncertain about a particular spot, reach out to me and we'll figure it out).
If I need to leave my instruments or other equipment for part of your event, I need a storage space with a reasonable expectation of security.
