What to expect

What You'll Experience
Master Boil brings the seafood boil experience directly to your table — literally. No restaurant, no reservations, no crowd. Just you, your favorite people, and a feast built for sharing.
Here's what a typical booking looks like:
We arrive with everything needed to cook fresh — shrimp, crab legs, lobster, sausage, corn, and potatoes, all simmered in our house-made garlic butter sauce with your choice of spice level (mild to Cajun-heavy). The pot goes on our propane burner right in your backyard or patio, and within about 30 minutes, dinner is ready.
Then comes the moment people book us for: the pour. The entire boil gets poured straight onto your table, covered in butter and spice, steam still rising. No plates, no formality — just hands, shells, and conversation. It's messy in the best way, and it turns dinner into an event.
Throughout the experience, guests get:

Fresh, Halal-certified seafood cooked on-site to order
A customizable spice and butter sauce experience
Bibs, crackers, picks, and everything needed to dig in
A hands-on, communal dining moment — not a plated meal, an experience
The kind of dinner where someone cracks open a lobster claw for the person next to them, because that's what this food is built for

We've done birthdays, anniversaries, family reunions, and just-because Fridays. Every booking is intimate by design — built for 10 to 40+ guests who want a meal that feels like a moment, not just food.

About

Who I Am and What I Do — The Master Boil Story

Who I Am

My name is Zakaria, and I'm the founder of Master Boil, the Greater Toronto Area's at-home seafood boil catering experience. I'm based in Pickering, Ontario, and I've spent years in the seafood industry — first as the owner of a seafood boil restaurant, and now as the person who shows up at your door with pots, propane burners, fresh crab, lobster, and shrimp, turning your backyard, driveway, or living room into the best table in the city for one unforgettable night.

I built Master Boil on a simple belief: the greatest seafood boil experience anyone will ever have doesn't happen in a restaurant. It happens in your own space, with your own people, with a professional kitchen set up right in front of you.

Where It Started — Behind the Counter of a Seafood Restaurant

Before Master Boil existed, I ran a seafood boil restaurant. For years, I was behind that counter, watching the full spectrum of what a seafood boil could be. I saw the packed dining rooms. I saw the stained bibs, the cracked shells piling up, families laughing until midnight over a mountain of crab legs and corn. That part of the business was everything I loved about food — messy, loud, alive.

But I also saw the other side of it. Every night, alongside those full dining rooms, there were the takeout bags. Steaming, stacked by the back door, ready to go home with someone who couldn't make it in, or who just wanted the meal without the restaurant around it.

And every single time, without exception, something was lost in that box. The heat faded. The steam disappeared the moment the lid closed. The snap of a crab leg pulled straight from a boiling pot — the thing that makes a seafood boil a seafood boil — was already gone by the time that bag hit someone's kitchen counter. What arrived at their table wasn't the experience. It was just the ingredients of one.

That gap between what happens in the restaurant and what happens in the box became the thing I couldn't stop thinking about. A seafood boil was never supposed to be something you pick up. It's something you step into. And that moment only exists when the pot is still hot and the people you love are sitting right there with you, elbow to elbow, going after the same table.

The Problem With the Restaurant Itself

The more I sat with it, the more I realized the takeout box wasn't actually the core problem — the restaurant model itself was.

A seafood boil, done right, is gloriously messy. You're elbow-deep in seasoning. Shells are flying. Garlic butter is dripping down your hands and onto the table, and that's exactly how it's supposed to be. That's the whole appeal — abandoning your table manners completely for the sake of a meal you actually get to attack.

But put that same meal in a public dining room, and something changes. You're surrounded by strangers at other tables. You're aware of how loud you're being. You're watching yourself instead of just being in it. A restaurant, no matter how good the food is, puts a ceiling on how far people are willing to let go. And the seafood boil experience deserves better than a ceiling. So do the people eating it.

I didn't want to run a restaurant that served seafood boils anymore. I wanted to build something that gave people back the part of the experience a restaurant could never offer — total freedom, in a space that's actually theirs.

The Idea That Became Master Boil

That's when it clicked for me: the boil doesn't need a restaurant. It needs your backyard. Your living room. Your birthday table. Wherever your people already gather, uninhibited and at ease — that's where the meal belongs.

So I flipped the entire model. Instead of asking people to come to a restaurant and eat within its walls and its rules, I decided to bring the restaurant to them — minus the walls, minus the rules, minus everything that got in the way of the experience itself.

That's the foundation Master Boil is built on. We cook everything on-site, fresh, live. Snow crab, lobster, shrimp, corn, potatoes, smoked beef sausage — all finishing in the pot as your guests are arriving, not hours before in some commercial kitchen across town. We serve it the moment it's ready. Not a minute after, and never out of a box.

Crack the claw. Dip it in garlic butter. Pass it to somebody you love. That's the entire point of a seafood boil, and it's something you simply cannot do out of a styrofoam container. It only works when it's hot, when it's shared, and when it's happening in a space where nobody's watching how you eat.

Starting the Business

Turning that idea into a real company meant rebuilding everything from scratch, not just the food, but the entire operation.

I started in Pickering and built outward across the Greater Toronto Area. Early on, I made a decision that still defines how Master Boil runs today: we would be a full-service, at-home catering operation, not a delivery service and not a pop-up. If a customer books us, our crew shows up an hour before the meal with everything needed — propane burners, pots, a serving table, tablecloth, plates, utensils, and every fix-in for the meal. The customer doesn't lift a finger. We cook it fresh in front of them, plate the entire spread on a fully set table, and once the meal is done, we clean everything up and bag the leftovers before we leave. The whole experience — from our arrival to full cleanup — runs about two and a half to three and a half hours.

I built the menu around a Signature Seafood Boil — a Master Bucket of half a pound of shrimp, baby potatoes, sweet corn, smoked beef sausage, and white rice, layered and seasoned together, finished with our homemade garlic butter sauce and fresh lemon. Guests choose their own heat level — mild, medium, or spicy — because I wanted people to control their own experience. On top of the base package, I added market-driven premium options: Alaskan king crab, snow crab, New Zealand mussels, lobster tail, live whole lobster, extra shrimp, crawfish, and sides like coleslaw and key lime pie, so the meal can scale from an intimate dinner to a 200-person event without losing the core experience.

Pricing was something I thought about carefully. I set the Signature Seafood Boil at $24.99 per person with a flat $150 full-service catering fee covering setup, cooking, service, and cleanup, because I wanted the value to be obvious — people are paying for a crew that handles everything and leaves their space cleaner than they found it. I set a 10-person minimum to support the level of setup and staffing the experience requires, with no hard cap on the top end — we've handled events of 200-plus guests by scaling up the crew and equipment.

Because I know how important trust is with food — especially seafood, especially when you're inviting a crew into someone's backyard — I made sure Master Boil is fully Halal-certified from day one. It was a non-negotiable for me, not an afterthought.

Building the Trust Layer

A restaurant earns trust through repeat visits over years. A catering company that shows up once, in someone's own home, has to earn that trust in a single booking. That reality shaped almost every decision I made.

I built clear, upfront policies so nothing feels uncertain to a first-time customer: 48-hour minimum advance booking, a 30–50% deposit to confirm the date, and a fair cancellation policy — cancel within 48 hours and the deposit isn't refunded, but we'll always work with a customer if weather changes, including rescheduling or a refund in the event of rain. I set a free travel zone covering Pickering, Ajax, Scarborough, North York, Markham, Downtown Toronto, and Mississauga, with a modest fee for areas further out like Whitby, Oshawa, Brampton, and Vaughan.

Since our setup uses propane burners, we require outdoor space — backyards, patios, driveways, parks, condo balconies — and ask customers to confirm in advance if their building allows open-flame cooking. Small details like that matter when you're earning trust with a first-time host.

The Mission

Everything about Master Boil comes back to one idea: the greatest seafood boil experience anyone will ever have should happen in their own space, with their own people, with a professional kitchen set up right in front of them.

Birthdays. Cottage weekends. Family reunions. Housewarming parties. Playoff nights. Whenever an occasion calls for something people will actually remember, that's when Master Boil shows up — we bring the heat, the crew brings the energy, and we handle everything else.

I didn't build this to be another catering option on a list. I built it to make sure that gap — between what happens in a restaurant and what happens in a takeout bag — never has to happen again. Your table. Our pot. One night nobody forgets.

Where Master Boil Is Today

Master Boil now operates across the Greater Toronto Area seven days a week, taking bookings for private at-home events, backyard parties, and venue catering. We're still early — every booking is a chance to earn a new relationship and new reviews from people experiencing us for the first time — but the response so far tells me the instinct behind this business was right. People don't just want good seafood. They want a boil that only exists when it's hot, shared, and happening in a space that's actually theirs.

Why I Chose to Build This in the GTA

The Greater Toronto Area is one of the most diverse regions in North America, and that's exactly why I believed a business like Master Boil belonged here. Seafood boils have deep roots in Louisiana and Cajun tradition — families gathering around a single pot of crawfish, corn, potatoes, and sausage, cooked together in a rich, spiced broth. I wanted to honor that tradition while adapting it for this region, leaning into fresh Canadian lobster and premium local seafood rather than importing the concept wholesale.

Pickering, where I'm based, gave me a natural home base with easy reach into Ajax, Scarborough, North York, Markham, Downtown Toronto, and Mississauga, while still being close enough to extend into Whitby, Oshawa, Brampton, and Vaughan as the business grows — a footprint that matches how people in this region actually live: multicultural families with a genuine appetite for shared, hands-on meals.

What Comes Next

I didn't build Master Boil to stay small. My focus now is on strengthening what's already working — refining the booking experience, building referral relationships, and making sure every event turns into a review and a repeat customer. Every backyard we set up in is a chance to prove the idea that started this business: the best version of a seafood boil was never meant to travel in a box. It was always meant to happen live, at your table, with the people you want there.

That's the business I left the restaurant world to build, and it's the one I show up for at every event, every week, across the GTA.
