Maria Sample Circus

Exquisitely executed, fierce and fiery entertainment that you can skin your teeth into. Maria builds acts that hit the wow factor spot, while sharing real heart, connect, and story in the act. Maria believes that all artistic expression is storytelling, and weaves in character and narrative into all of her performances.

Maria prefers to be upside down, performing in strange and unique places and ways.

Maria is a circus artist and human powerhouse who defies categorization - part aerialist, part dancer, part director, producer, and entrepreneur. Her performances blend artistry, honesty, and awe with the creative challenge of defying gravity. Maria performs corde lisse, aerial silks, dance and acrobatics, and has experience adapting to strange and unique apparatuses. As your resident weirdo, creating site specific work is one of her favourite hobbies. She has performed for companies such as Too Fly Productions (VAMP, Robin Hood) and The Underground Circus, and her work has been featured in the Transform Cabaret (The Cultch, 2020), the Alberta Circus Festival (2021), and the St. John’s International Circus Festival (2021). Maria is learning to balance the demands of motherhood with performing and working, and when she isn’t scheming up circus things, you can find her laughing with her child, partner and dog.

A minimum of 30 minutes on rigged aerial point prior to event opening so that artist can rehearse for specific spacing and test point for safety

For all aerial acts: A professionally installed rigging point capable of supporting at least a working load of 2000 lbs (910kg) and dynamic swinging motion. The point must be accessible via means provided by the client or venue manager (scissor lift, SAFE ladder, etc). If a venue contains a built-­in aerial point, artist must be notified of the name and contact information for the rigger who installed the point.
Aerial equipment can also be hung from I­-beams and trusses given that they satisfy the aforementioned force requirements. Contact artist for a site evaluation if you are unsure about your space. If there is doubt as to the safe load-bearing capacity of beams, a structural engineer must be consulted.

For aerial rope and fabric:
Vertical Clearance to ceiling: minimum 18’ (6 meters) is preferred
Clearance around point: 5’ radius (1.5 meters)
