If you want a legit multidimensional vocal talent that slaps, book Ms.
Margot Colie. She's a singer, songwriter, composer and graduate of
DU's music program with extensive training in vocals and musical
instruments. She sang 5 songs I chose for my parent's inurnment
(placement of cremation urn in a columbarium niche at Fairmount
Memorial Park).
I could barely tell the difference between her crisp vocals and the
original artist. The tenor and texture of her voice inspires. Her range
was powerful and she embraced each rendition with focus and intense
sentiment. She was prompt and prepared.
She sang my parent's favorites, “Ave Maria” and “Joy to the World”
plus three contemporary hits, “Hallelujah” by Lucy Thomas; “Rise Up”
by Andra Day and “Wild Horses” the Sunday's version. It's no
exaggeration that her songs brought tears and goose bumps; yes, it was
that moving. I can't believe how fortunate I was to find her and was
grateful that she accepted the gig. I found out that she learned the
melodies specifically for the event in less than 2 weeks prior and
delivered them with grace and finesse as if she'd been singing them
for years.
Her versatile style spans pop to rock to bluegrass to folk. Her talent
far exceeded her fee. I have no hesitation in recommending her. You
would be lucky to engage her. Discover Ms. Colie's performances
on line and judge for yourself.
Margot – Thank you sharing this solemn farewell for my parents
with me. You remind me of Joni Mitchell and Joan Baez.

About
Margot Colie is a versatile musician who exists in many genres and trades. She often collaborates as a composer, vocalist, and accordionist among other roles. Originally from Charleston, SC, she began studying voice at Charleston School of the Arts and went on to earn her Bachelor’s in Music Composition from the University of Denver under the direction of Leanna Kirchoff, Nathan Hall, and Sean Friar.
Colie’s compositional style is largely gestural and based in color with many of her pieces focusing on specific aspects of different scenery or memories. Fostering an interest in choral music, she has been commissioned by the Sing Me a Story Foundation and Charleston County School of the Arts, and her piece, “Breathe,” was on tour with the Landenjugenchor Brandenburg from Germany in 2025. She arranged prolifically for Exit 205 Acapella in her time as music director, having led them to the International Competition of Collegiate Acapella Quarterfinals for three years, taking third in 2025, and directing and performing on their EP Highway Harmonies. Colie’s works also focus on chamber music, with a piece for solo guitar, “Lace Socks,” having premiered at the 2024 São Paulo Contemporary Composers Festival.
As a performer, Colie most often works as a vocalist and accordionist, though she also practices many other instruments, having performed with the Lamont Chamber Guitar ensemble, Chorale, Bluegrass Ensemble, and Steel Drum Ensemble in recent years. She won 1st place in the 2019 SCETV Student Country Songwriting Contest and premiered a Z. Randall Stroope piece as a choral singer at the Harmonic Convergence Festival at Carnegie Hall in 2019. Colie is the lead singer and accordionist for Denver-based indie rock band, Rose Cold, for which she has written many songs. Their inspirations include Childish Japes, Jump Little Children, Paramore, and King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. She also plays banjo and sings for bluegrass band, Boxcar County, which pulls from traditional and contemporary bluegrass. Being well-versed in both classical and commercial music, Colie brings a unique, well-rounded perspective.
