What to expect

What happens when you hire Magic by Rob?
Rob Greenlee is a Houston magician who runs himself on event day. He arrives early, checks in with your point of contact, needs no special setup or staging and works independently so you can focus on running your event. He reads the room, adapts to the crowd in front of him and leaves guests with a story to tell on the way home.

What is strolling magic?
Strolling magic (also called close-up or walkaround magic) is performed for small groups of guests as they mingle. Rob moves through cocktail hours, receptions and networking events performing sleight of hand, card magic and mind reading a few inches from your guests, often with their own borrowed items. It breaks the ice between people who don't know each other yet and creates energy without pulling focus from the event. Strolling runs up to about two hours depending on the size of the event.

What is the magic show like?
The show is a polished, structured performance for the whole group at once, usually 20 to 40 minutes. For larger rooms it is staged as a stand-up parlor show that plays to a full audience. For smaller groups everyone gathers close around a table for an intimate close-up show. Volunteers are treated with respect, never made the punchline, and the pace stays confident from start to finish.

Is the magic appropriate for corporate and mixed audiences?
Yes. Everything Rob performs is clean and built for adults in professional settings: executive teams, clients, employees and mixed-company crowds. The humor lands without risking offense.

What kinds of events does Rob perform at?
Corporate holiday parties, client appreciation events, employee appreciation events, networking receptions, sales conferences, product launches, brand activations, trade show booths, awards banquets, fundraising galas, wedding cocktail hours and receptions, milestone birthdays, anniversaries and private dinner parties.

How many guests can Rob perform for?
Anywhere from an intimate dinner of a dozen people to events of several hundred. Strolling magic scales to large mingling crowds, the close-up show suits small focused groups and the stand-up show plays to a full room. For groups under about 30, Rob usually opens and closes with a few strolling moments and makes the show the centerpiece.

What does Rob perform at weddings?
At weddings Rob performs strolling magic during the cocktail hour and reception, entertaining guests while the couple is busy with photos. Packages can include a special trick performed only for the bride and groom that ends with a keepsake they take home, plus a signature deck of cards that guests sign as Rob makes his way around the room, which the couple keeps like a guest book.

Does Rob perform at trade shows?
Yes. Rob uses magic at trade show booths to stop foot traffic, start conversations and give your sales team a natural opening with prospects. He is local to the George R. Brown Convention Center and NRG Park and travels for out-of-town shows.

What does Rob need from the venue?
No special lighting or staging. For a stand-up show in a larger room, a microphone helps. Let Rob know what sound setup you have and he will adapt the performance to it.

What areas does Magic by Rob serve?
Houston and the entire Greater Houston area, including The Woodlands, Katy, Sugar Land, Cypress, Spring, Kingwood, Conroe, Pearland, League City, Friendswood, Clear Lake, Missouri City, Bellaire, River Oaks, Memorial, West University, the Galleria, Midtown and the Heights. Rob also performs in Dallas, Plano, Frisco, Austin, Round Rock and San Antonio, and travels up to 200 miles.

How much does it cost to hire a magician in Houston?
Rob prices per event, not by the hour. The quote depends on the format (strolling, show or both), guest count, date and location. Send your date, venue and headcount for a quote.

How far in advance should I book?
As early as you can, especially for November and December holiday parties, which fill up months ahead. A date is reserved once the booking is paid.

About

Rob Greenlee is a professional magician born and raised in Houston, Texas, performing as Magic by Rob. He specializes in close-up sleight of hand and mind reading for corporate events, weddings and private parties across Houston and Texas.

Rob's interest in magic started at age 8, after watching David Blaine's first television special, and it stuck after he saw live magic up close for the first time. By 14 he was performing for classmates and private parties. At 18 he released his first original effect, Ziplocked, which became a bestseller in the global magic community. He followed it with a second published effect, Lockdown, and was featured in Penguin Magic Monthly. He has since collaborated with other professional magicians on new effects for both magicians and live audiences.

Today Rob performs full time for companies including Guinness, Houston Food Bank, Chesmar Homes, AkzoNobel, North Shore Steel, Stolt, Sunrgy, JMS Transport, GB Pipe Mill and the Magnolia Hotel, and he performed at the 2026 FIFA World Cup Fan Festival for SportFive. Much of his business comes from repeat clients and referrals.

Rob offers two experiences: close-up strolling magic that moves through your cocktail hour or reception, and a structured show for the whole group, staged as a stand-up performance or gathered close around a table. Every performance is built for an adult audience.

Rob is based in Houston, regularly performs in The Woodlands, River Oaks, Sugar Land and Katy, and travels throughout Texas and nationally.
