What to Expect
Most frequently we are asked to perform as a quartet and play a mix of classical and popular music for wedding ceremonies and cocktail hours. Our quartet performs cocktail hour music that is popular, upbeat and fun and represents a wide range of time periods and genres. Occasionally we are asked to perform for corporate or private events, here we like to play a mix of classical string duet/quartet repertoire and some of our popular music at the request of our clients.
Luminous Sounds is composed of owner Kimberly Musial and several of New York's most sought-after string musicians. We are based on LI and are available to travel for events in the Tri State area. All of our musicians are professionals and have studied string performance at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Luminous Sounds is a young, hip, professional string ensemble. Our specialty is performing modern-day popular music for unique weddings and events in addition to traditional, classical repertoire and everything in between. Owner, Kimberly Musial is a professional violist whose concept was to merge current, popular music with traditional string instruments to produce a bright, unique sound for any event.
We offer two main types of performance ensembles…
1) The Illuminate String Quartet: This group consists of two violins, one viola and one cello. The quartet can perform both classical and popular music. The music that is currently in our popular repertoire is listed under the “popular” repertoire tab on our website. New music is being added weekly to that list. The group can also perform all of the traditional, classical wedding repertoire that you might be interested in having.
2) String duo: Typically, the instrumentation is either viola and violin or violin and cello. This group provides only classical music but is an economical option if you are on a budget.
Both groups provide you with the opportunity to have a piece of music arranged if you desire. If there is something special that you would like performed at your wedding that is not on any of our lists, I would be happy to have it arranged for you for the nominal fee of $75.00 per song.
Examples of our popular repertoire include Michael Jackson, Christina Perri, Sting, John Legend, The Beatles, and many others. We also are able to play classical duos, and all of the many, traditional wedding pieces making our group both versatile and unique. We are available to perform within the Tri-State area.
Additional Booking Notes
We simply require a well lit, safe area to perform. If your event is outdoors, we ask that a back-up plan (tent/canopy/relocation to the indoors) be in place in case of inclement weather. Due to the nature of our performance and our instruments, we can not play outside if it is raining, snowing, too hot or too cold. We provide our stands, clips (for windy weather) and small stand lights if needed.
Set lists are completely customizable for your interests and needs.
