I'm very much on the photojournalistic side of shooting; that is, my instincts are to let the event flow and collect as many candid moments as possible. I'm extremely patient and am actually known in the fashion world for smiling a lot; people should enjoy their time and I will do whatever I can to enhance this experience. If the job requires that most or all participants pose for pictures, this is fine as well, you will just want to communicate that to me in advance. I'm generally quiet when I work and give little to no direction unless it's fashion-related or I know that the particulars of the job demands it. I tend to shoot very quickly as a means of adding ease to those who may be nervous around a stranger with a camera.
Hello!
My name is Simbarashe Cha - I'm a New York-based photographer. I'm generally known by my blog, Lord Ashbury, which captures sartorial and social moments daily. Though I'm based in New York, I often travel to London and Paris to shoot. I started out as a street fashion photographer and it is still a big part of my regular life, but my passion lies in social events! I love to photograph wedding, parties, concerts and much more.
Work I currently cover:
Documentary
Engagement Sessions
Event - Openings
Event - Red Carpet
Fashion - Backstage
Fashion - Editorial*
Fashion - Lookbook*
Fashion - Presentation
Fashion - Runway
Performance
Professional Headshots
Party - Corporate
Party - Social
Weddings**
For outdoor or well-lit events I generally work alone, though if the size of the party is larger than 100 guests I will sometimes employ a second shooter or an assistant. My fee structure is fair, and my payment terms can be flexible depending on the project. Turnaround depends on the scope of the project, but for most non-wedding jobs a rush can be possible if necessary.
* For fashion editorial and lookbook, some logistic considerations may be considered before accepting the work.
** I do not accept all wedding requests as I believe an emotional connection to a photographer's work should be present before a couple selects that person. My baseline for accepting wedding sessions is that the couple is aware of the general aesthetic of Lord Ashbury and approves of that aesthetic in having their day presented.
I'm instinctively a natural/available light photographer and will shoot this way unless the conditions or specifics of the job require otherwise, in which event I will relay the specifics regarding lighting, etc.
I'm influenced by editorial magazines, memories of being a kid and cinema.
