January 19, 2022I hired Lindsey, Hella Famous to help launch a new stage and event at the Berkeley Flea Market. The crowd was diverse in ages as well as multicultural. She kept the audience engaged, she brought the best out in the artists that were performing, kept the event organized, and managed the flow professionally. She made our first event a success. Her Emcee skills were exceptional but her performances are just as riveting.

January 18, 2022Collaborated with Lindsey on a university lecture series about documentary filmmaker Renee Tajima Pena in March 2020. Could have been just talking heads but Lindsey brought it alive, made it smart and entertaining to everyone, especially students. She's so articulate and her voice just flows; I see her as spoken word artist, social media networker and community educator. She raises questions in a thoughtful way that refuses to individualize structural problems, but still challenges folks to rethink and clarify their perspective. Highly recommended!

As a spoken word artist, host, speaker and organizer I present the intersection of art and activism. I have a unique worldview that is reflected in my poetry as well as the conversation I bring forward in my hosting style. As someone at the intersection of art and activism I will quote and talk about everything from Tupac (my biggest inspiration) to bell hooks, Grace Lee Boggs, The Golden Girls and to Chinese customs. However I am not limited to or by these perspectives. I think quick on my feet and work hard to read the room. I have hosted all ages profanity free events and 21 plus events at night clubs. Not all crowds are the same but I am able to engage with all of them in a sincere way. I am a spoken word artist with over 19 years of experience and a host with over eleven years of experience.
Lindsey Leong aka HELLA famous is a third generation Chinese American Bay Area born and raised spoken word artist, host, curator and community organizer. Lindsey graduated mangna cum laude from San Jose City College and San Jose State where she earned in her degree in Social Science and Asian American studies. She was formerly the first and only woman host of Cito at Iguanas which was previously the longest running open mic in San Jose. As a curator some of her annual events include Love Is A Verb and the Hip Hop Prom. Lindsey founded the HELLA famous movement by accident in August 2011. To celebrate ten years of the HELLA famous movement Lindsey grassroots fundraised $1000 to create a HELLA famous Community First Scholarship. She released her first spoken word EP I Am A Metaphor in November of 2021.
