From founding CEO of a bank, to President of a small liberal arts university through the Great Recession, to chairing his State Water Commission, to leading nearly a dozen major civic organizations and initiatives in two different communities, Parnell brings an uncommon portfolio of leadership experience to the table.
To Todd Parnell, a river is a perfect metaphor for life and leadership. In a unique and fresh 50 minute presentation with 125 unique images he shares diverse leadership and entrepreneurial experiences and lessons learned in the context of a river, where he has invested much of his personal time and energy with family and friends.
This proven and passionate leader, community activist, award-winning author, and environmental advocate relates his leadership journey to a river’s flow with a series of relevant and humorous vignettes set amidst stunning photographs. “LIFE IS A RIVER” provides a unique lens through which to view leadership development and personal growth.
Todd Parnell is the recently retired President of Drury University, co-founder and retired president of THE BANK in Springfield, MO, community activist, award winning author of three books including The Buffalo, Ben, and Me, published in 2007 by the University of Missouri Press, and environmental advocate as co-founder of the Upper White River Basin Foundation and Chair of the Missouri Clean Water Commission.
Parnell resides in Springfield with his wife of 39 years, Betty. They are blessed with four children and five grandchildren for whom he has great plans on the river.
The breadth and depth of Parnell’s life experience drives his confidence in each of us to grow as leaders at work, in the community and in causes of choice.
