What to expect

When you hire me, you are getting someone who cares about how the music feels in the room.

I show up prepared, on time, and ready to make things easy for you. I can provide sound and work with you ahead of time to make sure everything fits your space and schedule.

My sets blend original songs with familiar covers, all rooted in folk and Americana. I pay close attention to the energy in the room and adjust as I go, so the music supports the moment rather than competing with it.

The goal is simple. Help your guests feel comfortable, connected, and part of something shared.

About

Hailing from Portland, Oregon, Kyle J. Glenn (he/him) is a singer-songwriter who has been crafting and performing his own songs since 2014. With a sound that spans folk rock, alt-country, and singer-songwriter traditions, Kyle’s music is deeply story-centered, drawing inspiration from artists like Gillian Welch, John Prine, The Mountain Goats, and Big Thief.

His single, "Parking Lot," was featured on Kink FM 102's Homegrown Discovery, and he has performed at iconic venues such as The Laurelthirst in Portland, OR, The Ruins in Hood River and Trout Lake Hall, as well as the Tumbleweed Music Festival in Richland, Washington and Shady Pines Festival. Kyle has twice toured across the U.S. and played shows in Spain and Portugal, sharing stages with acts like Tele Novella, Marty O’Reilly, Tony Furtado, The Sam Chase & the Untraditional, Boot Juice, Jeremy Pinnell, and David Quinn.

Kyle’s latest release, Everywhere is Close to Somewhere Else, is a reflection of a decade-long journey - both musically and personally. This record is a sonic map of Kyle’s search for "home" over the past ten years, from leaving Portland at 25 for San Francisco to multiple cross-country travels. The songs, some written as early as 2013 and others as recently as 2023, explore the intersections of place and identity. Originally considering the title Geographies, the record ultimately became Everywhere is Close to Somewhere Else, a nod to the realization that "home" is more a state of mind than a physical location.

Kyle can be found around the PNW performing solo and backed by his band, The Wandering Kind. In addition to music, Kyle enjoys climbing, running, photography, block printing, and filmmaking, bringing a multidimensional approach to his creative expression.

Additional booking notes

I am a self-contained solo performer with a compact and reliable setup.

I can provide a full PA system suitable for small to medium-sized events. This includes microphone, stands, and all necessary cabling. I require access to one standard power outlet within a reasonable distance of the performance area.

If your venue has an existing sound system, I am happy to coordinate in advance and plug into house sound.

I need a small, level performance area. A chair or stool is helpful. For outdoor events, I require protection from rain and direct sun to ensure the safety of instruments and equipment.

Typical setup time is 30 to 45 minutes. Breakdown is similar. Parking within a reasonable distance of the performance area is appreciated for load-in.

Influences and inspiration

I am influenced by story-driven songwriters like Jason Isbell, John Prine, and Gillian Welch, along with artists like Gregory Alan Isakov and Big Thief who bring a strong sense of mood and atmosphere to their music.
