Overview
In 1995, The Ibeji Drum Ensemble was formed to "edu-tain" (educate & entertain) audiences of all ages & ethnicities & to preserve & cultivate an awareness of the rich musical traditions of Africa.
The Ibeji Drum Ensemble was founded by Dr. Anthony B. Mitchell (Baba Tony), Beatrice Y. Mitchell (Iya Bea) & their twin sons, Anthony, Jr., and Dante. Ibeji means “twins” in the West African Yoruba tradition. As a family, the Mitchell’s embody the traditional musical heritage of Africa.
The group has now reached its third generation, as their grandsons occasionally perform with them.
They have traveled to Guinea, Senegal, Ghana, West Africa, and Cuba to study traditional drum, dance, and culture.

We had the pleasure of experiencing this African drum band and they were absolutely amazing! The energy, rhythm, and talent they brought to the performance had everyone engaged from start to finish. Not only were they entertaining, but they were also extremely professional, punctual, and easy to work with. Their vibrant beats created an unforgettable atmosphere and truly elevated our event. Highly recommended for anyone looking to add something unique, powerful, and uplifting!
