Kumasi is New Orleans’ own award-winning full afrobeat orchestra. We fell in love with a style of music created by Fela Kuti and Tony Allen, and we bring that style to the people of New Orleans - with our own twist. We play Fela and some afro-funk from Ghana and Benin, but the majority of our live show is original music, stemming from West African concepts, composed to make any crowd groove. We can be high-energy (ideal for dancing), low-key (great for background music), and everything in between. In 2017, we won the Gambit's "Best of the Big Easy - Best World/Latin Music" award. We've played French Quarter Fest, the Bayou Boogaloo, and have gigs throughout venues on a monthly basis.

We've played French Quarter Fest for 2 years, Bayou Boogaloo, and a variety of other festivals and entertainment venues in and around New Orleans. Our members are:
