Jovan "Jv" Buckner was born in Manhattan, NY on June 29, 1977, and as a baby, his parents moved to Charleston, SC where he was raised. Brought up in the church, Jovan began playing for youth choirs and groups as an early teen.
His first big shot started with a program called "Blues in the Schools" that was started by blues icon, Billy Branch out of Chicago for middle school students. While learning to play the harmonica, Jovan was asked to play drums as well. They were quite impressed to the point where they put him in the show to play drums in front of hundreds of people at the age of 13. They then picked two students to travel to Chicago for the famous Blues Festival where Jovan was 1 of the 2. Jovan then had a taste of stardom by playing on the famous "Front Porch" in Chicago for the Blues Festival in the front of thousands of screaming fans at the age of 14. In that very show, Jovan played behind Billy Branch and The Sons of Blues, Sonny Boy Williams, and Ko Ko Taylor.
Jovan then went on as a teen playing for churches and Choirs such as Life Center Ministries under the leadership of Bishop Brian D. Moore, The College of Charleston Gospel Choir, FOCUS Ministries, and the Charles E Greene Workshop Choir's Live Recording. Jovan was then asked to play for a gospel quartet group by the name of Tony & Co. With this group, Jovan began touring Europe twice a year (summer and winter tours) for a couple of years. From there Jovan began touring with the stage play as the music director, "Trouble Don't Last Always", directed by Tyrone Gooding starring Shaun Levert and Miguel Nunez. He was then picked up by another stage play for a two year run named, "When A Woman's Fed Up", written and directed by David Payton, starring Lenny Williams, Glen Jones, Chucky Ducky, and Bern Nadette Stanis (Thelma from Goodtimes). At this time, Jovan's career began to blossom.
Jovan is now currently working with international artist Vanessa Ferguson, super producer Gav Beats, Ricco Barrino, and the world renowned Temptations.
Coming up in this industry, Jovan came up listening to Phil Collins, Billy Cobham, Buddy Rich, Cater Beauford, and close friends, world renowned drummer Quentin Baxter, Charles Lamont Garner (India Arie), and Calvin "Coon" Napper (Frankie Beverly and Maze)
