Wedding Singer

Jullanar sang my for my cousins wedding last month and she was terrific!
We had planned the wedding pre-covid but unfortunately had to delay the wedding which she was extremely understanding and flexible about. She was very professional and sounded amazing!

What to expect

I can provide soft background music for corporate events lasting anywhere from 2-4 hours of music. I have a band and can provide amps of my own if need be. Repertoire includes old standards such as "Dream A Little Dream of Me", "The Girl From Ipanema" and other jazz standards. I can also perform contemporary tunes by singer songwriters such as Ingrid Michaelson, Maroon 5, and others.

About

Jullanar Gamboa is a jazz vocalist based in Los Angeles, California, whose warm, vintage sound draws inspiration from the golden era of jazz. Originally from San Diego, her love of music began at an early age, shaped by the eclectic sounds that filled her home. Her mother introduced her to a rich tapestry of genres—from merengue and salsa to jazz and musical theatre—laying the foundation for a lifelong passion for performance.

Following her dream of becoming a professional singer, Jullanar was accepted to the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. During her time there, she immersed herself in rigorous theory studies and performed in a variety of ensembles, refining both her technical skill and artistic voice. In 2017, she graduated with a degree in Vocal Performance, marking the beginning of her professional career.

Since graduating, Jullanar has become a familiar voice throughout the Los Angeles jazz scene. For more than a decade she has performed at intimate venues across the city, including Oeno Vino Wine Bar, Oh La La Café, Jones Coffee Roasters, and The 1894 in Pasadena. She currently holds a monthly residency at The 1894, the wine bar inside Vroman’s Bookstore, where she performs a duo set with local guitarist Andy Brems.

Jullanar’s musical style evokes the elegance of 1920s jazz crooners, with a vocal tone reminiscent of classic singers like Julie London and Billie Holiday. Her performances blend timeless standards with heartfelt storytelling, creating an atmosphere that transports listeners to the smoky jazz clubs of another era.

In addition to her live performances, Jullanar had the opportunity to co-write and perform the song “When I Wake – Reprise,” featured in the Oscar-nominated film Whiplash. Whether performing on stage or collaborating in the studio, she brings authenticity, warmth, and a deep respect for jazz tradition to every project she undertakes.

Additional booking notes

If there is a sound system available at the event that would be great. However, if there isn't, I can provide my own amplification.

Influences and inspiration

I'm influenced by the cool jazz groups of the 1920's. People like June Christy, Julie London, Carmen McRae and some of the newer singers like Cyrille Aimee and Cecile McLorin Salvant. A lot of the repertoire is jazz but I try and squeeze some contemporary singer song writer songs like Corrine Bailey Rae and Lianne La Havas into the set.
