I am a fiddler, guitarist and singer with a huge repertoire of songs -- for background music, for listening, and for dancing. I play acoustic folk, old-time, and traditional country music as a solo performer, and with other musicians as a duo up to a five piece band. I've been performing in the greater San Francisco Bay Area since the 1970s, and I would love to help make your event fun and memorable.
John and friends made our day special with their traditional bluegrass sound. John was so accommodating and easy to work with! Highly recommend!
John and Michael came to our winery for a wine club member event and played for 4 hours, with what I heard to be, very short breaks. They were very conscientious about their volume and that everyone enjoyed their time at our event. They were flexible and easy to accommodate. They even threw in some kid songs for the families! They provided a great ambiance for our winery that was fun, western, and modern at the same time. Not overbearing, but a great live music perk to offer our members. We definitely recommend them and believe they are talented and can create the high or low energy music environment for your event. Will definitely book them again!
We hired John for our daughters 1 year birthday party. He and his friend Michael played a children's set of music for the kids and then played a little more variety throughout the party. Everyone enjoyed them and many guests said "great band", "awesome musicians", and "what a good idea to have live music". The children's music circle was very specials bad adorable and it kept their attention as well as the adults. They are very friendly and engaging as well as talented! We will definitely hire again for adult or children's party.
John Roy Zat are super talented and wonderful to work with. I was honored to have them at our barn raising party here in Napa.
I highly recommend John and his band. John was responsive to our needs and put together a great mix of music and singing for our event. Organized and attentive and an overall compliment to our dinner. I and others from the event would definatley recommend him and hire him again!
John and his band were really outstanding for my outdoor wedding picnic event. He was very professional in his communication and timely and the music was great. He really captured our vision for a bluegrass/country feel in the redwoods. We were worried about the sound level, but John was perfect. We got so many compliments on the music and really enjoyed having John and his band setting the tone for our special day. He's a great guy, and wonderful musician. What else could you want? I highly recommend.

What to Expect
I am a fiddler, guitar picker and singer. I play folk and traditional country styles, along with some cajun, country swing, and rockabilly. Depending on what my client wants, I will play quiet background music, lively dance music, old standards, original songs, or even kids songs. I work with a variety of experienced musicians so in addition to performing solo, I perform as a duo, or in larger formations depending on the event.
John Roy Zat has been performing in the greater SF Bay Area since the 1970's. He has performed with Kate Wolf, Queen Ida, Bill Kirchen, Nina Gerber and many others. Kate Wolf recorded his words to "Midnight On The Water" for her second album, and the song has since been covered by Banish Misfortune, Caroline Herring and others. John has released three CDs to date - "Solo", "Collaborations" and "Who Zat" - all of which have gotten consistent airplay on independent radio and charted well on Roots Music Report, STS, and other indie charts.
