John Allen Caricatures
Overview
I’m a professional caricaturist operating out of Indianapolis, IN. I’ve been working as a caricaturist for over ten years.
My love for drawing people started as a young child. I’m good at entertaining groups of all ages. At live events, I typically draw caricatures in black-and-white using black markers, head and shoulders only, (color on request, but takes more time). For in-studio commission/gift caricatures, I work in both black-and-white and/or color (from a photo reference). I look forward to providing caricatures for your live event, or in-studio commission/gift caricatures.

September 16, 2016Nice guy, pleasant to deal with with
John showed up right on time to set up. The attendees at the picnic enjoyed interacting with him. the overall opinion was that his drawings were average.

What to expect
I provide live event caricatures of your guests, in the state of Indiana, with courteous and professional service. At this time, I will travel for events within 15 miles outside of the I-465 loop only. If booked for your event, I will arrive 30-45 minutes early for set-up (which is minimal). I require a 6 x 10 foot work area.
I always bring my own table, chairs (one for myself, and another for one subject) and my personal drawing equipment. If your event can provide me with any additional chairs that may be required for subjects to sit, that would be much appreciated!
I use a variety of black markers on 9 x 12 inch sheets (for head and shoulders only) and 11 x 14 inch (for full body) sheets of Bristol Paper. It takes me about 5 to 7 minutes to draw a black and white face and 7 to 11 minutes to do both color and ink.
I also provide protective sleeves for the finished drawings for your convenience. A physical invoice will be presented to you after the event has concluded, and I will email you a digital invoice for your personal records.
Event planners can expect:
> A professionally dressed artist. Please inform me of any dress code/expectation for your event. I typically dress casually, in a polo or plain, colored t-shirt, with dark, well kempt jeans, black/navy slacks or khakis, and sneakers. I can step this up depending on the client's needs.
> High-quality materials and a clean setup. I travel relatively light and use professional grade equipment/supplies. However, I require 30 - 45 minutes for set up, and equal time tear down.
> I frequently film videos of myself at events and take still pics of my subjects and their caricatures, with their permission of course, for promotional purposes. If this practice is prohibited, please inform me in advance.
> A friendly, genuine artist to engage with your guests positively.
> Keepsake caricature drawings that guests will want to take home, frame, and display. A conversation piece.
> A service that adds artistic flavor, enjoyment, laughter, and entertainment value to your event, and more.
UNIQUE PERK
If I'm unable to draw a caricature for any of your guests at an event you've booked with me due to lack of time, I will provide them with an studio caricature drawn from a photo, at a steeply discounted price. I normally charge $50 for studio caricatures, but in these instances, I would charge $15 each, a savings of $35! *Inquire for details*
About
My name is John Allen, and I'm a local Indiana caricature artist.
I've been working as an artist for about 10 years. I studied art at Herron School of Art & Design, and attended various art instruction workshops throughout the years.
I provide studio gift caricatures from client photos, and live event caricatures.
When not creating caricatures, I produce fine art projects, as well as write novels and short stories under the name, "John F. Allen," and I teach writing courses for the Indiana Writers Center, the Indianapolis Public Library system and Indiana Humanities.
