Jessica John - Circus Artist

Jessica can provide a single 4-6 minute act or 1-3 sets of ambient entertainment depending on client needs. All services include photo release, performer liability insurance, costuming, fabrication, performance, and travel within 100 miles of Corvallis, OR. À la carte pricing and custom packages are available.

Jessica John is a circus artist, director, choreographer, and coach based in Oregon. She specializes in corde lisse (rope), rope loop, aerial fabric, and dance trapeze. A curious cataloguer of movement, she found circus in 2009 while working as an intelligence officer with the CIA. After the 2016 US presidential election, she left spook life to pursue her passion full-time. Jessica’s work challenges gender norms through displays of virtuosic strength and flexibility and rejects narrative structures as a primary humanizing device. The empathetic space she creates for performers combines with compelling visuals to make award-winning collaborative and solo works. Jessica is the founder and director of Alter Circus, a feminist contemporary circus and performance company. She also previously directed Vaudoux Aerial Dance Theatre and Steal A Step.

Jessica supplies aerial apparatus, spansets, carabiners, swivels, costumes, makeup, mats, and any other props. Rigging is not included. For aerial acts, client supplies structurally sound rigging point(s) rated at 1200 lbs., audio equipment (live music or sound system with ipod adapter), and safe access to rigging (ladder, lift, or foot access). Portable rig rental is possible in cases of venues lacking rigging (such as outdoors) for an additional fee. Acts require a minimum of 10’ diameter empty floor space around performer where the audience is not permitted, ideally with security or other designated persons to monitor safety of performer. Min. rig height for most apparatuses in venue from structural point to floor is 14’ and ideally 20’-25’. All services include photo release, performer liability insurance, costuming,
