JAZZALELE TRIO BIO
World Class Vocals and Rhythms: “She has a voice like melted chocolate…” (The Harbour City Star). The JAZZALELE Trio loves mixing rhythms from various genres. Their sound is heavily influence by both Motown and Latin American rhythm and has a sultry tropical feel that audiences find appealing. Jazzalele performs in both the concert venues with Tropical and World Jazz, and dance venues with more of an R&B and Rock sound.
The Award-winning Jazzalele Trio is: Vocalist: Anna Acevedo Lyman, ((link hidden)zz) who plays Guitars and Stringed instruments, Steve Sutton, (B.A. Assoc. Mus.), on Bass and ukulele, and Oscar Cruz on Percussion. This popular group likes to perform and interpret a wide variety of genres, and perform everything from Brazilian Bossa Nova, Jazz, R&B and Pop. Anna and Steve are jazz musicians who love World Music and play Latin, Hawaiian, Ray Charles, Nina Simone, Roy Orbison, Motown music and much more. Steve and Anna are degreed performers. Anna also studied with Hawaiian ukulele Master, Ben Chong, the greatest ukulele jazz performer in the world, who headed up Don Ho’s band in Hawaii. Luau music is also available from this group. The Pender Harbour Jazzfest, the Winecountry Ukulele Festival in California’s Napa Valley, and more. In 2012 they won the Vancouver ukulele Festival “Ruby’s Ukes” cover song competition with Anna’s arrangement of “Blue Monk” by Thelonius Monk. In 2022, percussionist Oscar Cruz from El Salvador, joined Jazzalele.
Anna is Latin-Canadian, and has family ties to Mexico and Brazil. As a vocalist, Anna has received considerable critical approval. The Coast Reporter said (Anna) “...makes us think we should order champagne....”. Anna’s voice has also been compared to “honey”, “wine” (Rutgers-Newark Observer, New Jersey), and “melted chocolate”, (The Harbour City Star, Nanaimo) and much more…

EDUCATION:
Anna received her (link hidden)s. in Jazz Voice and Guitar from Vancouver Island University, while Steve Sutton was educated at Malaspina University College, and the University of Victoria. Anna and Steve created and hosted both the Nanaimo Ukulele Circle, and the Nanaimo Ukulele Festival and are busy Music Teachers on Vancouver Island, in British Columbia, Canada. Oscar Cruz has worked with percussion for many years, and in several groups. In addition to presenting dance music Anna also writes appealing original songs in Latin, Jazz and R&B styles.
