Jamila Thompson

I would like to introduce myself. I am Jamila Thompson, sometimes called "Mila". I have spent over 17 years working on and developing my skills and style as an actress, singer, songwriter, performer and music composer. I have grown up listening to all types of music from all over the world. My father was a musician who introduced me to playing musical instruments. In terms of my musical taste and style, I would say that since I like many different types of music I would compare myself to Lauryn Hill and Prince. Lauryn Hill writes, sings, raps, performs and acts. Prince writes, sings, performs, plays multiple instruments, dances and his music ranges from R&B to Rock and Pop. I grew up in the suburbs of Atlanta, which is one of the music capitals and becoming a center for TV and Film. This has helped give me the opportunities that I have had so far. Music is a part of my emotional expression. It's my way of reaching out and attempting to touch people's hearts. I haven't been through everything, but I'd say I've been through enough to be pretty well rounded. I love hip hop and rock, which is why I would say I have more of an urban pop style. But my music choice, when it comes to just listening, is limitless. I am an athlete which is why I think my look is sometimes more laid back, (just like my personality) but I like to get glam every now and then too. I was well known in high school, but now I have a small tight knit circle of really good friends. It works out well for me that way and I love hanging out with them, of course. Although I am laid back, I do not cut corners when it comes to perfecting my singing. You can say I am a borderline perfectionist, but I'm not complaining about that attribute. My family and I are very close, and they support my dream 100 percent. I feel lucky to have such a great support system, including my little brother (even though he can act like a little brother most of the time).
